Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve is a great place to take a hike or walk. Altogether there are over 700 acres of wetlands and floodplain that is preserved. The old canal bridge, near the parking lot, is one of the oldest roads in the town of Clifton Park. It is very easy to see wildlife here including birds, deer, beavers, fish, and amphibians. The park connects to the Mohawk Towpath. On the towpath it is possible to walk or bike as far as Glenville or Waterford. On the path there are many local historical sites to be enjoyed. Most of the trails are fairly flat and along the side of a river or a canal. The parking lot here fills up quickly. Be sure to get here to enjoy the wildlife, scenery, and historic sites. If you're going on a longer hike here be sure to have a trail map. They're available online. There are picnic tables along the trails and near the trailhead. This is a perfect destination for a leisurely hike.

Very great place to go and just relax. If you like to walk or ride bike. Nice path to walk on or ride a bike. Seen many children with parents walking with them. Great to show wildlife to younger children. You just have to look to the water edge on the logs right now to see turtles basking in the sun. I would say if you carry things in to eat or drink. Make sure you carry it back out. I did see one thing that I did not like that was someone put dog poop into bag and left it on the side of the path. Plus I also did see where dog poop was on the side of the path also. But you just have to watch where you walk if you go off the path little bit.

This nature preserve is absolutely beautiful. It contains a mixture of gravel and dirt paths, many miles of them. Bring your dog for an awesome on leash walk experience, or ride your bike on the flat gravel. There is easy access parking, but it does get busy on sunny days and weekends. This is a fantastic location for bird watching, especially with the water features of the canal and creek. There are no facilities, however - no bathrooms, water, or playgrounds. There is also no garbage can -- whatever you bring in with you you take out. Although I don't think grilling is allowed, there is one picnic table available at the parking area.

One or my favorite places to take a walk with my dog. Will also do some trail running in the summer when it's not so damp. The preserve offers a lot of trail space traveling through the woods. You will definitely see a lot of birds and may see some other wildlife. The park borders the Mohawk river to one side and a section of the Erie canal on the other. If you like the outdoors and live in Clifton Park this place is a must visit. Very well maintained and clean. Sometimes it gets pretty busy with a lot of people, but only because it's so popular for fishing, dogs, and walking.

This is my other go-to. Actually, here more than five rivers lately. Lots to see here. Nice long, quiet walks through the woods or on a trail. Snakes, beavers, deer, many different birds, ducks, geese, fish, and of course, people. Usually a nice peaceful walk. I'd advise people with small children or dogs to pay mind to the snakes on the sides of the tow paths. They will usually jump back in the bush or water, but this time of the season, they're a little protective. * Walk here a lot also, so I will update photos

Great hiking experience. Multiple locations to park. Trails are marked, but offer several unique paths / options along the way . I saw plenty of birds, frogs , painted turtles , snapping turtles, beavers & snakes. Lots of mosquitoes but as long as you keep moving at a steady pace you will be fine . I did not wear bug spray and didn’t get bit, but again I was walking fast . Picnic tables at the parking areas (at least the one I went to) . Semi-busy on a Thursday at 1pm. Free parking .
