This rating is specifically for the Disc Golf course here, this is the first place I ever played a real disc golf hole so I have a soft spot for it, designed by Eric McCabe PDGA professional and master course creator, this 18 hole disc golf course offers stunning views on the back 9, though I must say they are a challenge to find after the 9th hole, once you've found the 10th hole prepare to enjoy yourself and play some rare disc golf holes that you'd have to drive hours to find anywhere else, thoughtful use of terrain and elevation make for the full gambit of disc golfing experiences, from simple birdie holes all the way to hang on for safety and pray for magic baskets, with options on most holes for a short tee and a long tee, and some holes with a short basket and long basket, this course is infinitely replayable, go full shorty, short to long, long to short, you get the idea, few courses are without their drawbacks of some kind and as it pours rain while I write this I know I'll need legitimate hiking boots or any waterproof footwear to play again soon, drainage could be improved but natural springs make it difficult to get all the trails as neat as one may hope, generally adequate signage from basket to tee but sometimes as in the case of finding the back 9 there is some serious hiking involved, I don't mind but those who may not want to walk about a mile to the next hole a couple times should be aware there's a few hauls, my only other gripe is the bugs, but that is nature and this place is super natural which I prefer, bugs also happen to really love me so if I'm with others they say it's not so bad because they're all on me, not an exaggeration, I don't know what my blood type is but all the bugs do, and they love it best, the horse flies in particular really enjoy their aerial assault on me, they say we see you like aerodynamics buddy, watch these piloting skills buster boy, but when I hear the chains rattle after being bitten a hundred times by the 2nd hole which is a beautiful short downhill par 3 to the left, semi tight line through the trees that opens up to an inviting basket whispering for the ace, don't throw a mega fade or you will be getting a crash course in hide and seek with your disc as there's an amphitheater of brush to the left of the basket, hole 3 also has a field of tall grass if you're short left that will have you wondering how much daylight is left to find your disc, after that it's pretty smooth sailing through the woods, hole 4 is also a beauty, slightly down hill basket great for a right handed forehand that you can toast down there for the eagle if you fly as do the horses, just want to thank Eric for bringing a touch of disc golf class to west colesville, truly amazing you get to play here for free, in places where disc golf is more popular I could see it being 20 bucks to play, Im looking forward to playing in the fall when it dries out and cools down, early spring and late fall are the best times of year to play, I don't know if it's set up in the winter but on a day there's not much snow cover I'll bring some G Stars...
Read moreNature trail is not always cleared or nice to walk through, even as a kid I remember running into a dead dear blocking the path on a school trip. Nothing spectacular to see and no special views in the forest. Depending on which side of the park you start the walk on it usually ends or starts out being a little swampy and buggy.
If you plan on swimming be careful what you wear, the lifeguards have very strict policies you have to be wearing a bathing suit. I believe the rule is "nothing cotton" they will enforce this even if you are just wading and they will be so pusy about it... Not to mention if you do go swimming be careful where you step this place has leeches. I had a leach attach to my toe and make it bleed back in 2010. The ground also tends to be super mushy in the park when it rains.
This is still a good spot to cool off in the summer and there is plenty of fun to be had. Perfect for a picknic or family BBQ. The restrooms are okay but be careful if you go into them barefoot there was broken bottles and glass on my last visit. This place does have lockers, bathrooms, and showers, and depending on the time of year a little area which sells food. I had a pretty disappointing snowcone last summer... Pretty flavourless but the ice did help me beat the heat, most of it ended up going in my drink to keep it cool. I bought a green and a red one and neither were worth writing home about. I bought a second in a different flavor after being disappointed by the first and it wasn't much better.

Read moreThis is a nice place to come and hang out for a day or rent a cabin for longer. You can come here to the manmade beach and enjoy a nice time by the water. There are lifeguards and there is plenty of parking. There’s also a spot where you can rent a paddleboat or a canoe/kayak for a very reasonable price. I also saw people out on the water in their paddle boats wearing life vests, they likely have those as well, I haven’t looked myself.
Worth checking out. I wish it could get a little more financial love from other areas to support fixing up the loose wooden boards of the steps walking down towards the beach. They could benefit from having additional benches near the beach and a cleaner more updated concession area with picnic tables. I will say, we noticed the picnic tables (2 of the 4 there), having a shorter bench on one side to allow for handicapped seating. It’s always good to create public spaces that are accessible to all. All-in-all, it was a nice place to relax and...
