The trail is very dense with bugs, since there is always water, bring bug spray for sure!!! The grass close to the trail near the end is very thick and long too so I'd check for ticks after your hike. Very beautiful hike through out, challenging but not difficult by any means, the running Brook makes for great background noise and the fire tower itself is in good condition, enclosed, and the view is everything!!! My only concern is it seems there are too many people camping/partying by the fire tower. Please if you come here take all of your belongings with you when you leave!!! Beer cans, bags, bottles etc. Why not go recycle them and get the extra $$$? You waste money everytime you don't recycle them back. There is far too much broken glass at the landing of the fire tower to the point where I couldn't allow my dog any closer in fear of him stepping on the broken glass and getting hurt. The glass was definitely from beer bottles. Please do not litter and think of the people who come on this trail after you. CARRY OUT EVERYTHING YOU CARRY IN. It's extremely upsetting when people misuse and abuse a good thing that everyone...
Read moreWhat in the world was I thinking when I suggested we walk to the top of this mountain and climb a tower :). We are not hiking people. We are exploring flatlands people. They signs say one mile and some. Welp walking a mile generally takes maybe 30mins it took us at least 2 hrs to get to the tower. Coming down, probably 1.5 hours. It was dry but extremely slippery coming down the mountain. There were maybe 10 groups coming down as we were going up, and a few more came along up as we were going up, so the trail is busy but no crowded. We took Opal with us and met a few dogs along the way. Initially, there was some concern about racist due to signage on homes coming up the mountain. Everyone we met were friendly in their passing. I'm not sure what big game is hunted here, but we called the ranger before going up the mountain. We saw plenty of chipmunks, no...
