We have had great experiences at this dog park! Our dog loves to visit and has plenty of room to run. There is a beautiful river next to the park with two waterfall features that are a lovely oasis for pet owners while their pups run around. The park it's self gets 5 stars but based on the below can only give it 4.
I've heard the neighbors across the street complain all the time if dogs are barking too loudly. Complain to the extent of calling the police which is just obsurd when you live across from a dog park and a lake that has geese constantly being louder then any dog, I experienced that first hand today... Just a cramugin it sounds like.
Also I've heard the that the town comes often (3x+ per day) during the warmer months to check if the dogs in the park have been registered with Croton Village. You can't be a Cortlandt resident it has to be Croton Village.. which is a silly rule as well. Registration of dogs should be open to all Cortlandt residents and the village would make more money. More money to pay for the waste in police time the neighbor takes up.
Hopefully the town and the people who enjoy the park find a way to make this dog park enjoyable for all because it would be a shame if it was closed down because of 1 unhappy person versus the many residents who...
Read moreEntrance to Black Rock Park is from Quaker Bridge road. There is there a parking lot for at least 30 cars. The park is alongside the Croton River. There is a bridge across the river there but it is underwater when there is a lot of water in the river. There is also a picnic area with chairs and picnic table next to the water. Down stream there is a fenced dog park too. The dog park has a very large playing area with lots of space for dogs to run around. Most of the park area is shaded and near the water which is very nice. In this area the Croton River is relatively wide. Just below the park there is a dam that keeps more water in the park area, but allows the water to flow down stream to Silver Lake. Silver Lake is Croton's swimming area, as sadly swimming and boating is currently not allowed in Black Rock Park. Thus I gave this really nice park only 4 starts, should be 5 for it's beauty. With swimming and small boats...
Read moreThis park only allows residents to use it. It's very exclusionary and hostile. The only person who was there was the park ranger, who immediately came and asked me if I was a resident, and then still demanded to know where I was from after I said I wasn't a resident. It was unsettling. Congrats to the people of Croton for their lifeless, empty...
