It's a nice place, but as almost everything outside big cities, there is no safe way to get there using public transportation. We arrived by train at the Croton-Harmon train station from Grand Central in New York. Then, we walked a bike trail next to a highway to get to the entrance of the Old Croton Trail in the North part of the Ossining Town (there was no path for pedestrians). The bike trail was ok, but it was shadowless and extremely long. Then, the Old Croton Trail was exceptionally nice. Lots of animals and big trees. Once in the Dam, the park is nice, although there were no public toilets open. But when we decided to come back to the train station walking through the Croton town (the closest route to get to the train), it was extremely dangerous! There were NO sidewalks, at all, on the way back! We had to walk literally on the road, very scared of the cars passing us very fast! And this lasted for almost an hour (insane!). Since this is a tourist spot, we never imagined that there was no public transportation or sidewalks (at least!) to commute from the train to the dam. A very scary experience. A shame that this country concentrates that much on cars and nothing goes to public transportation outside dense...

There is also a small parking lot towards the top of the dam that was free but not really much to do but look down on the park/at the water. Great for photos and a nice stop for someone who might not be able to make the small trek from the...
