On our road trip tour of Wisconsin waterfalls, we stopped in at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center just to make sure we weren't missing any good ones. So glad we did! Amanda was very helpful and gave us a brochure about waterfalls in northwest Wisconsin organized by county with specific driving directions and some good info like path length and quality. She also helped us organize our day's itinerary and told us about how to view the Northern Lights! The visitor center was really cool, too; it's in a beautiful building and it has an historical and geological exhibit room, many artifacts and examples of animals from the area, a touchable tree of duck varieties (!), furs of different local animals to feel, a fourth-story look out to view the surrounding area (accessible by stairs or elevator), and a well-groomed path if you felt like a hike.    Read moreThis is the best visitor center I have ever been to by far, and I travel a lot and love visitor centers! When I was there there were several art exhibits- one was woven portraits of women who have fought for clean water all over the world, and the other was an artists painting of native Americans in their pow wow regalia. These were in addition to their historical Great Lake exhibits and ranger programs. They also have a fantastic trail system on the beautiful preserve they sit on. In addition they have a very comfortable theatre and a fantastic educational selection of historical and environmental film library for every age and interest. They have a wealth of knowledge contained in this building. Pamphlets on attractions, trails, waterfalls. Ferry information to the apostle islands. Interactive displays. Lovely dioramas and murals. Gift shop. Clean restrooms. The only disappointment was the observation deck. Steps and elevator. Once up top I was hoping for a beautiful view of the lake. However, you are quite a distance from Lake Superior so it was an amazing view of the land around the center. There was also a man on the outside observation deck with binoculars counting birds. In the lobby was a large board showing the number of each species of migrating bird. I would definitely spend 30...
