It's a steep climb. From the point that you begin hiking from the trailhead, you begin a 3,000 ft ascent. I've hiked all 46 peaks, and this is one of the toughest. It's not for the faint hearted. However, it's easy in the sense that the base of the mountain is right off of the roadway. You don't need to hike into the base It's pure climbing. You get stellar views along the way up the mountain too. Even if you only hike half of giant, you can still feel a sense of reward with the views that you get.

Worth every minute of the time it takes to climb. Red trail (rocky trail) is harder and little longer than the blue trail. Both trails meet at junction at one point and the trail up to the summit is on blue trail only. Red trail is very rocky, lot of rock scrambling and leg strength is required. Take enough salty food, vitamin water, water and snacks if you are going to stay at the summit for a while. Coming down will seem fast but will hurt if you are not a mountain climbers in the first place.

We really enjoyed our day hike up and down Giant mountain. It's a steady climb to the top with only a few level spots and scrambles. You only start to see views on the second half, however the view from the summit is worth it. I call it a moderate hike for people who are used to Adirondacks hiking, it would be challenging but doable if you're used to flatland hiking. It took us 7 hours total with lunch at the top and stopping for a swim and another stop to look...
