The setting by the lake is nice, and there's 3 playgrounds and a splash pad. The problem? The beach was the filthiest I've ever seen. The shore was choked with vegetation and many dead fish. The stench of weeks(?) of dead fish hit you as you approached the beach. And the sand was littered with goose droppings.
Other oddities: the splash pad has a lifeguard, which I've never seen before. This causes a problem when the lifeguard goes on break, and the splash pad closes for 20 minutes. The pad is well-drained, so there's never more than a quarter-inch of water pooled anywhere? Why is a lifeguard required? Meanwhile the beach has no lifeguard (that's fine with me, but if you're hiring a lifeguard, why not have them monitor the place where people can actually swim?). But really, instead of paying a lifeguard's salary, they should pay someone to clean up that beach.
The good part: the water was nice and shallow a long ways out from the beach, which gave plenty of room for my kids to play, and helped give the water its nice warm temperature.
$7 to get in here seems very steep when all this really has over a regular city park is the beach, which they're clearly not...
Read moreNice place for families to gather. My family has gone there for our yearly family picnic twice now and it's been perfectly nice. Last year the beach and splash pad were still closed due to covid. They were open this year and looked like they could be lots of fun, but none of the kids thought to bring suits since it had been closed the year before. I'm not a huge fan of the giant chains of yachts spewing various music, with drunk white dudes standing in waist deep water next to their Trump flags and trophy wives. They have all the rights to be there that I do, but this is asking me what I thought of my experience, and this is part of it. The yacht chains were there both last year and this year.
If the yachts won't bother you and you're okay with not very deep water (because it's only waist deep at most), it's a nice lake. The splash pad looked nice as well. Cute playground but beware of spiderweb on everything! If your kid is one who will freak out at the feeling of spiderweb, check before the hop on anything on the playground (obviously unless you've seen other kids just playing on it.)
I imagine the park would be gorgeous...
Read moreWe went for Juneteenth. When we first got there an older lady was working the booth and had no idea what she was doing with the technology or so it seemed, I wouldn't blame her but I definitely feel like she should not have been there alone or she should have been trained better. I had also asked her about getting in as a 100% disabled veteran and rather than offer the information that I needed to be able to do that she just told me no we don't do that. Not unfriendly, not exactly warm either. After we got into the park I went to the marina to check that out which was nice. There were tons of trails everywhere and the park was particularly clean. I then joined my family at the Splash Park and the playground both where are filled with a large variety of things for different age children. The kids had a blast so it was a success. If they can add one thing it would be camping. I would recommend this for a day trip. I would also recommend this as a good location to Launch a boat on the North End of...
