Sleeping Beauty Mountain is a nice hike in the Lake George area. The trail begins at the Dacy Clearing parking lot. It is 1.8 miles to the top over moderate to difficult terrain. It is possible to do a loop hike here by proceeding past the summit and going to Bump's Pond and then back to the parking lot. The summit has great views of Lake George and the western Adirondack Mountains across the lake. If you turn north on the summit you can see Adirondack High Peaks. The summit is set a few miles away from the lake on a steep precipice. When on the summit proceed with caution. The trail going up the mountain is wide and well marked at least of the way. Starting from the parking lot follow the yellow markers until you come to a two-way intersection. Take the blue marked trail to the right to go directly to the summit. As you go on this trail you will pass a series of cliffs on your left. You can see them through the trees. As you proceed there will be a series of switchbacks and you will be near the summit where you will find a sign direction you there. After you see the sign proceed towards the rocky summit ledges of the mountain. When you are there take in the views; they are enjoyable! On your way down you can go towards Bumps Pond to make it a loop hike or head down the same way you came up. When going down be sure to notice the trail signs about which way to go. Both trails are marked in blue, and you have to get on the correct trail. This hike is a popular one in the Lake George area. When driving to the trailhead you will have to drive through the Hogtown parking area and proceed down a narrow road to the Dacy Clearing parking area. When you get to the top you are sure to have a great view and...
Read moreWell let me begin with the fact that the view was AMAZING! The hike is about 1.8 miles. On your way in, there's one parking lot that then connects to a rocky road to another parking lot. The second parking lot is where the hike begins but I would recommend parking at the first parking lot then walking a little ways down the rocky path because that path will damage your car and your tires. If you have a Ram truck or any type of truck you should be fine but if you have an average car, I STRONGLY recommend walking to the second parking lot where the hike begins so you don't screw up the bottom of your car and it's tires. There is a check in spot at the beginning of the hike so you can write down when you start and end your hike. You never know when...
Read moreThe road leading to the trailhead is unpaved, consisting of dirt and gravel with many small pebbles, and the parking area is very limited. The hike is of moderate difficulty, but the trail itself is not well-maintained & not clearly marked. This makes it particularly challenging for those with young children, as there are many sections with scrambled rocks and slippery surfaces.
Please be aware that this is a habitat for rattlesnakes. We almost reached the summit but learned from other hikers that a rattlesnake was in the area, so we decided to turn back before reaching the viewpoint. Given these conditions, I would not recommend this hike for families with small children Additionally, the duration of the hike felt exceptionally long &...
