Crystal Lake Wild Forest — Attraction in Town of Fremont

We went on the trail around the lake. we could do only half of it as the western half was very muddy and we were with our 2 and 5year old kids.

I did see a review complaining about snakes and there is also a picture posted of a snake. We did the trail on October 17th and my wife did see one of the snake as well right at the edge of the water. So be aware of them.. It seemed to be a Cottonmouth snake based on the description i was given.

Pros: Secluded, quiet, beautiful, fishing, hiking, camping, kayaking.

Cons: A LOT OF SNAKES (I was told they were cottonmouth) 😣 over the edges of the lake trail, in the lake, and hiding in between the less than maintain trails. There should be a sign warning folks about this. Road needs to be filled with stone as it has huge pot holes. Certain parts of the lake there was a bit of trash. People need to take their garbage with them and wait until they get to a gas...

My family and I hiked here today 6/20/2022. The trail around the lake is level, but somewhat rocky: only suitable for hiking. There are indeed muddy stretches on the west side of the lake, as others mention, but we didn't see any snakes. The camp sites were clean and empty. The road has been fixed and covered with gravel. The hand boat launch is manageable; I plan to come back...
