What a glorious view! We were in town for appointments and decided to make a day of it. The trail is well-marked with multiple ways to reach the scenic spots. Just a heads-up—the map only mentions the “dance floor” viewpoint, not the “nose,” so be sure to do the full loop or you’ll miss the best part!
We learned the hard way that the trails cutting through the loop don’t really save time or offer extra sights—no bonus views or interesting plants, just more hiking. A portion of the trail was closed off due to Peregrine Falcon nesting, but there’s a clear alternate route provided.
I'd rate this trail as easy to moderate—we’re casual hikers in both fitness and experience, and we managed it just fine. It’s been a rainy year, so about a third of the trail was muddy for us, so I'd recommend wearing hiking boots. We completed the loop in just over an hour, including lots of photo stops. Since we went on a Monday, we had the top completely to ourselves, which made it even more special!
Absolutely worth the trip if you...
Read moreThis is my favorite leisurely day hike with the best views at the top. The view is over a valley with mountains in the background and fields, homes, farms and fields below. It is a loop trail of about 1.5 miles and can be done by the vast majority of people, even us that are a little out of shape. The trail is really easy to follow and is dirt, not rock, so sneakers are good. As you start up the trail you come to a sign "Green Loop Trail" where the trail to the right is longer but more gradual and the trail to the left is shorter but steeper. Both these trails are part of the loop trail. Most of the trail is shaded but not the top. The top feels like a cliff with rock hanging over air. Once you get to the top there is about 100 yards of a relatively flat trail that runs near the edge with great views. The last view is the "Nose". For those of you a bit cautious of heights, there are trails away from the edge where you can walk and then approach the edge with more comfort. There is a good...
Read moreVroomans Nose is a great beginers moderate hike with a wonderful view of the Schoharie Valley from a flat stone expanse at the top. The trail is a loop that comes to a Y a short distance from the trail head. Its not a terribly long hike, probably took my 6 year old and I about 30 minutes to reach the peak, we had a snack, then slightly less than 30 minutes back to the trail head. This is a good test hike for kids because the car is only 30 minutes away at most. The trail has some steep spots, I classify it as moderate because you are climbing a grade almost the entire way and there are rocks and roots on a lot of the trail. The entire trail is wooded past the trail head until you reach to peak, so with recent rain there can be wet and slippery spots. Overall this is one of my favorite hikes, the view is very worth the effort. The peak has a cliff so be careful yourself and...
