Mohonk Preserve Coxing Trailhead — Attraction in Town of Gardiner

This is a great location to swim! But be wary if you’re afraid of snakes. There are actual Water snakes in the water!!!!! And in the creek that feeds the waterfalls. The signs outside Is true!!! We saw a few but tons of people swimming and nobody got bitten. Supposedly they’re not poisonous. Come early the trail parking gets filled very early. No later than 11 am for sure. This has always been such a favorite place my whole life . Close to home and easy to jump in and cool off . Many moons ago it was park and swim and lots of locals and out of town climbers stopped in to cool off . It is still nice to see that it Is not over crowded. The parking lot is small limited and it cost 30.00 for 2 to enter which in my opinion seems to keep trouble away as well over crowding and garbage left behind. Keep it small , keep it clean,...

The main swimming hole can get packed but if you go off on the other trails there’s some beautiful areas to swim and explore. I did have a freak experience at the main swimming hole of being surrounded by THREE snakes at once, 2 on the rocks 3 ft away from me and one that swam inches behind me.
