Absolutely breathtaking park, wish we could have stayed much longer. Water was pleasant and crystal clear all the way to the bottom.

Nicolette beach offered bike, and watercraft rentals, food trucks and shoppes to enjoy. It's just a quick paddle out to explore nearby Horseshoe Island. The entire green space area and it's paved pathways, leading down to Nicolette Beach are unfortunately, not dog friendly, so you would need to have your puppy-friend in a carrier if you take them down there, to go on a kayak ride with you, from the rental store (who do allow dogs!)

Camp hosts will get on to you if you are out there with them on a leash, and misunderstand their somewhat confusingly worded signs (no dog on beach, or picnic spaces)

Personal kayak launches and dog-friendly swimming are at Tennison Bay, it's a beautiful area but instead of the sand beaches you have very large round rocks about the size of your fist, and they are quite slippery once you get into the water so please be careful if you decide to go out for a swim at that location. I took my Boston out wearing Crocs on my feet for safety and it was definitely slow going, but pleasant nonetheless.

There are several overlook points spread around the park, and there is a really neat historic lighthouse to check out, it's open everyday, between I believe 11:00 and 3:00.

We utilized two different camp spaces while we were here and the traditional camp spaces have a gravel area, they're mostly level, to slightly graded, but you have lots of space a fire ring and a picnic table, and we were camping with our Tesla towing our camper, and loved the fact that we had access to a 30 amp and a 50 amp simultaneously at both campsites. The second half of our trip we moved to a available ADA space, as my husband is a disabled veteran, and that one had a completely asphalt pad which made things a lot more clean and stable, perfect for a wheelchair user.

Tons of trails, wildlife everywhere, and nearby to 3 of the most adorable little towns ever, Fish Creek, Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay.

If you make your way down to Sturgeon Bay, I highly recommend eating at Sonny's Italian restaurant while you're over there, it's across from the maritime museum, and the food is excellent, as is the walkable area, surrounding the restaurant.

Closest Target and Walmart are about 30 minutes out, in Sturgeon Bay area, but there are so many little shops around the camp area, where you could get most everything you need. As long as you have the big stuff checked off your list, you'll be fine.

The dump station and potable water area at this camp are amazing, so well laid out and in excellent brand new condition basically.

The showers are spacious you could easily get a family in there for a rinse off after swimming, and there are separate bathroom facilities under the same pavilion. Really cute playground in green space on the other side of the camping area, whole space is very walkable.

You will need to have a reservation to camp, and purchase a nightly or annual parking pass, but I believe the annual parking pass is only $38, if you're staying long enough it makes the most sense to just get that one.

This is one of those "your mileage may vary" things, because I don't know how often they change out, but I want to say that on the dates we were staying, our camp host at site 323 in the 200-400 camping area, was absolutely amazing, he and his family were just so welcoming, friendly and helpful, and truly enhanced our stay. We stayed Aug 6-8, 2024

We live 1200 mi away, and I'm already trying to figure out how to talk my husband into...

Wow, I just finished up a camping trip at Peninsula State Park and it was absolutely amazing. It's so popular for a reason! I can definitely see why people book their sites so far in advance. We were lucky enough to get a the last available spot when booking a couple months ago, and it was a great basecamp for exploring. The campgrounds are really well-maintained, and even though there are a lot of people there, it still felt pretty peaceful and private. I spent most of my time exploring all the trails. The biking was a highlight for me. I rode the Sunset Bike Trail, and it was the perfect ride—paved and winding through the trees with incredible glimpses of the bay. I also did some hiking, and the trails offer some seriously stunning views, especially up on the bluffs. You're never far from the water, which is a big plus. You have to go to Eagle Tower. The view from the top is just fantastic. It’s accessible with a cool canopy walk, and you get a panoramic look at the entire park and all the way across Green Bay. We also checked out the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, which was a neat little piece of history right there in the park. Between the hiking, biking, the beautiful shoreline at Nicolet Bay, and the awesome campsite, it was an unforgettable trip. It’s got a little bit of everything—even a golf course and a theater if you're not in the mood for a full day of outdoorsy stuff. I'm already thinking about booking my spot...

This state park is a true GEM that fully captures the breathtaking landscape and vivid colors of Door County, Wisconsin. During my visit, my mom and I hiked the Eagle Trail, a rocky trail that directly followed the lakeshore and viewed the Eagle Tower and Terrace. We really enjoyed hiking the 2 mile loop with the vigorous exercise that accompanied the great views; however, the path was poorly marked. After hiking around a mile, my mom and I found ourselves confused while looking at what seemed to an unmarked fork in the road not far from the Eagle Terrance. Fortunately, we were able to find our way back, thanks to my intuitive sense of direction and by cross-referencing our location to Google maps. My point is to beware of possible confusion due to lack of signage and nearly indistinguishable trail if you are hiking from the Eagle Trail starting at the Eagle Panorama hiking North West.

Aside from our adverse experience on the Eagle Trail, we really enjoyed the views the trail had to offer along with the Eagle Tower. Note that the wooded structure has a wooded ramp, making it possible for EVERYONE to see the breathtaking views of the Peninsula.

Overall, I would highly recommend visiting this park if you are able! The views are incredible, along with incredible terrain and accessible...

Having a puppy this year did NOT affect our plans in Door County one bit. We aren’t typically the type to go in all the shops or have sit down meals indoors, so she was able to tag along to most places we usually go! Door County has plenty of places where dogs are welcome to join the adventure. Near Baileys Harbor, you can walk the stone causeway out to Cana Island and explore the grounds around the historic lighthouse. Just outside Fish Creek, Northern Sky Theater offers outdoor performances where leashed dogs are welcome in the audience. Up past Washington Island, Rock Island State Park is a quiet, remote spot reached by two ferries, with miles of wooded trails and shoreline to explore. In Sister Bay, Seaquist Orchard has a farmstand, sunflower fields, and walking paths where dogs are welcome on leash. #doorcounty #wisconsinlife #dogfriendly #roadtrip #midwest
