This is the only surviving effigy mound of its type in North America, so is rather awe inspiring for that alone. The little park it is in is easy to miss, so pay attention to your navigation, and watch for the green stripes painted across the road that represent where its legs reached to the other side. A fenced in area there w unmoved grass shows its feet. It is difficult to photograph, and you have to imagine what it may have looked like at its full height when newly constructed. The one pic included here is from the informational board at the site, shown from an...

Serene place with great historical significance. The last of itโ€™s kind in North America, the Man Mound is a prehistoric remnant dating back over a thousand years. The effigy mound resembled a buried giant, and was very low above the ground. A quiet place to reflect and bring a picnic lunch. There was an informative educational display on site, it's a great opportunity for all ages to learn about ancient history. No gift shop or ferris wheel, maybe just stick to the Dells if history doesn't appeal to you. Free roadside attractions like this one are few and...

It is a little hard to see, as you can only witness it from ground level. Unlike the serpent mound in Ohio that has an observation deck. A very unique effigy and one of many found in Wisconsin. There are a few picnic tables and a few benches for resting. The effigy is split by a paved road. It is hard to get a good picture of it, so my apologies for the bad photos. Parking was a little snug and may only admit 8 to 10 vehicles at a time. I wouldn't try to bring in a trailer, camper, or RV into the...
