Halfway Acres (Organic Blueberries Reservation U-Pick ) — Attraction in Town of Hamptonburgh

I now understand how my niece felt when she saw Snow White in Disney! When I got to the farm and saw all those deliciously ripe, sun-kissed berries I was overcome with complete and utter disbelief, joy and excitement! Suddenly my childhood memories of hiking through the mosquito infested woods to gather a hand full of minuscule, tart blueberries evaporated as I delved into the sapphire field of blueberry heaven!

The field was easy to navigate although I would recommend old sneakers or boots as it was muddy after the weeklong downpours. The berries were plentiful and easy to grasp-at eye level and below which made it easy for adults and children. We brought bug spray but never used it-perhaps we were just lucky!

I recommend taking a moment to chat with Berri-girl, Berri-lady and Berri-man-the owners who greeted us. Such nice people with warm smiles and stories about the place. This was my third year picking at Halfway Acres. It was by far the best this year. The family has planted more trees and this year put up a fence to keep the deer and other critters out. I think I have roughly 30 lbs of berries in my freezer and not sure how many I ate in the car on my way home. I love that they don't spray. They are the nicest family and always helpful in knowing where to pick for the day. There are different plants with a mix of flavors. Some are very sweet and some are tart. This makes for a great mix in what ever you are doing with them. I look forward to having amazing blueberries until they open up...

This is an excellent, family-owned, organic blueberry farm. Don't expect the commercial farm with the hayrides and whatnot. Do expect to go to a small farm and to be greeted by a very nice family. Do expect to find larger, tastier, and cheaper blueberries than you find in the store. These are, by far, the best blueberries I've ever tasted. I will definitely be coming...
