My mother purchases chicken and pork from Stonecrop farm at the Brighton Farmer's market every week. They also regularly carry offal, which is great for weird (but delicious!) Chinese dishes.
Their products are FAR superior to anything I've ever gotten from the supermarket; when my mother makes the same old dish with ingredients from Greg and Jenny, there is SO much more flavor to the dish! Another bonus is that for whatever reason, the pork seems to last much longer without developing that weird smell that supermarket pork seems to take on after just a couple days in the refrigerator.
We also purchased our 2018 Thanksgiving turkey in advance, and the reservation (online, but maybe also possible in person) and pickup process (at the Henrietta farm location) was very straightforward.
Lastly, both of them are also incredibly kind and warm toward my mother, which is almost as important to me as the quality of the meat. Stonecrop farm's stewards are doing a fantastic job of filling a niche for local, responsibly farmed, high quality meat in the...
Read moreI’ve been a vegetarian for the past nearly 30 years, primarily because of the torture that industrial agriculture wreaks on animals. I have been a customer of Stonecrop Farm for the past 4 or so years because my family is not vegetarian (and I do eat eggs). I have visited their farm more than once and feel confident that they take good care of the land and give their animals good lives, raising them ethically and on pasture. They even carefully source their supplemental feed from one of the original organic grain farmers in the Finger Lakes. I deeply appreciate that they provide this option for me and my family. I love their pastured eggs, and my family raves about the turkey and pork. My husband never liked either until he tasted them from Stonecrop, and my kids can’t get enough of their breakfast sausage and bacon. Greg and Jenney's turkey has become our extended family's Thanksgiving tradition. I also appreciate having a source of ginger and turmeric I can trust (tho I recommend pre-ordering those as they sell...
Read moreWe purchased 1/2 pig from Greg and Jenney at Stonecrop Farm and the experience couldn’t have been better. Greg did a wonderful job of simplifying the process by providing us with a cut sheet and accompanying video that explained the different cuts and how to fill it out so you get exactly what you want. Pick up was easy and everything is vacuum sealed and labeled.
The biggest reason to get your pork from Stonecrop is the quality. We have raised our own pig and obviously eaten store bought pork but I have never tasted anything as good as the pork from Stonecrop. I can’t decide what I like more the thick sliced bacon or the ham steaks. The breakfast sausage is amazing in greens and beans and the ribs were meaty and delicious. Once it warms up a bit I am going to smoke a pork shoulder and I anticipate it will be just as good as everything else.
Getting a 1/2 pig from Stonecrop was a great decision for our family. It was nice to have all that meat in the freezer as it gave us peace of mind. It is well worth...
