Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site is a nice Revolutionary War battlefield to visit. At the site, interpretive signs and a bronze relief map on the scenic overlook describe the events of August 16,1777 battle. A small information building holds additional displays. The site is well laid out and quiet. It is easy to gain an understanding of the battle from the site. At the Battle of Bennington American units led by John Stark and Seth Warner defeated a Hessian unit that was sent by British General John Burgoyne to seize supplies in Bennington. As a result of the battle Burgoyne's forces were weakened setting the state for the Battle of Saratoga a two months later. Battle positions of the forces are well marked on the battlefield. As good as the site is, it could use a little bit more. If possible it would be good to have a guide or historical interpreter there. A movie would in the information center would also be a good addition. There is a hiking trail at the park, but it is hard to locate and more signs for it would be helpful. Other NY State Historic sites seem to have better resources at their sites, this one deserves an update. After seeing the battlefield proceed to Bennington, Vermont to see the Bennington Monument; a huge obelisk building which...

I visited the monument on 4/21/18...The setup is very confusing,do not under any circumstances go inside the tower without a ticket...There is a small sign stating no entry without ticket which I didn't notice..At the is so called" Museum" with a couple of photos and small diorama...Tickets to this alleged venue must be purchased across the street,I was not aware of this fact...Upon discovery my crime the Elevator operator "Don" rudely asked me to leave... I had no intention of trying to view these alleged historical artifacts for free I assumed that you could have a look before paying for the elevator ride...I think they could have a better person on duty,a polite...

Great destination for American Revolutionary War history buffs! Trace Burgoyne's Campaign and also visit Hubbardton Battlefield in VT prior. Expect self-guided exploration with interpretive panels. Take your time to poke, read, absorb and envision the conflict. Occasional living history demonstrations (likely in mid-August) add more dimension. The bronze relief map shows the entire battle helps you to picture the hidden 1777 landscape. Do not confuse this actual battle site with the Bennington Battle Monument nearby in VT. Visit early in the day and you can follow up with a visit to the climax conflict at Saratoga on...

Very historical site of the 1777 reveloutionary war. It’s a beautiful mountain side setting with that shows the encampments of the war and they have picnic tables and historical markers. Great place to walk dogs and have a picnic. They also have a small pavilion and a lot of historical information at the top of the mountain.

Not too far from the monument in Bennington - maybe a little over 5 miles. Back in the day you could actually see the monument from the top of this hill. There is a great view from here of some of the major points of battle, as well as helpful displays. The view from this spot is even more spectacular in October. Beautiful.
