My favorite place to hike. You got everything here. Horse stables, historic buildings, a hawk sanctuary (off limits), a lake, a large bay with calm waters (that I took a swim in a couple times), bluffs that overlook the bay which is a great place to throw a blanket down, wooded dirt trails, paved bike trails, benches in front of scenic areas and at the top of a hill where you'd want to rest ..there are deer here and the most amazing thing is that I spotted a white stag with beautiful antlers .. A rare sighting that ill never forget. The sunsets here are amazing. The only thing I don't like is the huge hill you have to walk down towards the lake and bay and also the paved hill that I had to walk up on the way back .. But its all worth it.

Be careful for holes in the ground that aren't very visible. I twisted my ankle in one by the building on top of the hill.

There are at least 2 bathrooms in the park.. One is closer to the parking area with white buildings.. On the opposite side of the silo. The other is just off of the paved bike trail next to the big historic building on top of the hill. If you walk around that building, you'll see another building that has bathrooms inside as well as a water fountain and a drink machine.

You aren't allowed to fish here but I noticed there are lots of fish in the lake. In the bay there are cranes and other waterfowl. A few years ago, I saw a brown pelican sitting on a rock on the shore near the bay. Only pelican sighting on Long island in my life!

My brother found a tick on him after sitting in the sand

Hiking Route: This hike started at the parking lot near the garden.. Walking to the right and across a large field towards the horse stables and a paved road, making a left at the paved road which leads you to the buildings on top of the hill. On your way there, you'll see a field on your left with a beautiful tree in the center.. There are also benches to right of the trail. Continue the paved trail up a small incline to the buildings with a scenic view Of The lake and bay. Go down the hill and to the right of the lake onto a dirt trail that leads to the bay. Make a left when you reach the bay and walk the shore a short bit til you can make a left up into the grassy bluffs. Walk along the edge of the bluffs as it curves to the left into a trail that leads away from the water.. This is your way back. Go straight until it becomes a paved road that goes up hill.. Make a right at top Of hill and continue on the paved trail back the way you came (past the tree in the field, then the stables). The parking lot is towards the right .. If its dark , walk towards the lights from the white buildings where the bathrooms are. The lot is behind the white buildings. Be careful driving out,.. Sometimes deer are in the road near the...

This is a passive park that we frequent on Sundays. Enjoy the beautiful houses on West Neck Road but beware of cyclists and joggers that drift into the road and do NOT go over the speed limit. Coming down hill enjoy the view of the bay, sailboats and harbor. Going uphill into the park be courteous, it is a narrow entrance and more suitable for a one way road. Cyclists and walkers will enjoy the three mile, hilly loop and hikers will enjoy the trails but beware of tics. Toddlers on foot will get tired and if on tricycles will not be able to make the hills and even elementary age children may get a little cranky. It is not really a park for children unless they are in a stroller. On a blue sky day there is a spectacular view from the Main House across the Sound to Stamford, Connecticut. There is also a great hike to the water but swimming and picnicking are prohibited. Don't forget that big hill you walk down, you must walk back up. In the fall the foliage is beautiful. In summer there is an area with no trees and blazing sun so a hat and water is recommended. You may bring lawn chairs and reading material to relax, as well as a snack or beverage but it is not really a park for picknicking and there are no concession stands. Only criticism is the bathrooms need more frequentl cleaning so bring tissues just in case no TP and bring wet ones. Have yet to get a fishing...

I was looking for an easy bike trail for my son but couldn't get much information on their website. Called their phone number but it was a recording that didn't help. So I went there and talked to a local. The trail across from the paved parking lot took me to the beach! Great view with an accessible beach. Fishing requires a permit. Automobile access to the parking area by the beach requires a permit as well. This trail was unpaved with stretches of gravel and sand but was wide with long hills/descend. Not technically difficult but required just a little bit of stamina. I only wish the trail was longer. On my Trailforks app this trail looked paved, different from the green and blue trails. The local I talked to advised not to go into the woods as ticks are abundant there. The state park website indicates parking is $8 until 4pm. I got there around 5pm. No one was at the booth and the machine in the parking lot that takes payments was covered with a plastic bag. Bathroom was clean by the stables. There is another bathroom between the stables and the parking lot but I didn't go there. Walking out of the parking lot, the paved road on the right leads to the equestrian center (nice looking building) nearby. It goes on much further but I didn't get to explore. The is a sign that says no skate boards or roller skates but people do take their bicycles onto the...
