If you’re an outdoors family person, this is a great state park to visit if you want to alternate between Jones Beach and Robert Moses, which aren’t that far. The parking fee is $8, but if you have a state pass, you know it’s free! There is kayaking, fishing, boating, restaurants, and the beach. I went to mainly fish by the pier, which had benches for people to sit and relax instead of just stand. I brought my own chairs just in case. There is absolutely no shade so I do recommend bringing a beach umbrella and rope to tie against something, or an upstanding umbrella. There is a no swimming sign all around the park, but I saw kids swimming. If children do not like fishing, there’s a sand park behind the fishing pier. Be warned, there’s poison ivy by the grassy area. You’ll see the signs. Next to the park, is where the fishing boat dock is. I didn’t take the boat out so I’m unsure of the pricing. The restroom is your average state park bathroom, the restaurant is around the area as well as the bait shop for fishermen. The other side of the pier has picnic tables and BBQ. Overall, it’s a nice park and a little remote compared to Jones Beach and Robert Moses. Not as much sand to play with at this park compared to the other two, but it’ll keep the little ones...
Read moreWe took our granddaughter for her first fishing trip, and we chose Captree because it's close to our house. Getting there was really easy and finding the boat even easier. Parking is easy and finding a parking space near our boat was a bit challenging; however, there are plenty of spaces if you're willing to walk just a bit. We took the JIB VI fishing boat. Wow, what a really nice boat. We boarded on time, were given our equipment, and were escorted to our positions. The crew was extremely attentive to our needs. We informed them that we were new at fishing and that we would need some quick lessons. Every single mate made it their business to shepherd us in our attempt at fishing, especially for my granddaughter. We were so very well taken care of, especially by a female member of the crew (sorry I don't remember her name]... all were so very pleasant. Next time we go fishing, we'll take the JIB VI again. Captree also has a little restaurant, where you can get some fast food at reasonable prices. Their lobster roll with a beverage comes in at $19.95... not bad at all. It's a nice place to go and spend a day and catch some fish and sunshine. We caught some sun but skunked out on the fish. Oh well,...
