There are many enjoying the surf (the Great South Bay) which is quite choppy today, 07.19.2020, Sunday. With a sole lifeguard on duty enjoying her tanning process, she looked over her beached flock of sunbathers packed in almost like sardines in a can with oil added. These sun worshipers were using Banana Boat or baby oil and did not appear as edible. The beach is small bordered by the water and a sidewalk which takes you around the field or to the rest rooms with outdoor showers. Between the field and restroom is a grove of trees sprinkled with a collection of picnic tables with benches. The air temperature with the breeze blowing felt like seventy while on the sand it felt like eighty-five. This is the site of a former estate and is a wonderful place to take your bicycle, but you share the sidewalk with pedestrians once leaving the parking lot. There is a guard booth with an amiable guy checking credentials and whose ancillary duties are keeping dragons and non-residents from parking on the tarmac. Bring a bike, a lock, your beach blanket and a mindset that you may not be six feet away from your adjacent blanket tennant. As for babe-watching for you guys/some ladies...they are on Fire Island or the Hamptons; their presence is conspicuously hidden from this piece of real estate. This is Mom's Beach; nothing more to be said. You will find it to be a relaxing walk from the Sayville/Main Street Business District and a closer brisk walk to the Fire Island Ferries. Bring a lunch and the kids. I wish this place was here when a child from...
Read moreNeeds to be dredged. They make thousands yearly to have residents dock here and there is no water in the marina. By November it is very bad. I wiped a prop out on a shopping cart on november 15th, one recent year, trying to get my boat home. It is also a nuiscance to show id every time i need to see my boat. The guy at the booth still doesnt recognize me after all the pass thru time i put in--waving, showing ID and saying hello. The November 15th deadline to remove your boat comes with plackards plastered all over the dock warning you that you better get it out on time or else. At over 1,000.00 a year, If I go out 10 times, or every other weekend, its 100 bucks an outing just to put up with all this nonsense and the occasional hook or sinker in my upholstery from dock fishermen. Way better off trailering to Hecksher for 10 bucks a trip and a ton saved on boating fuel AND you dont have to get banged up crossing...
Read moreWhen searching for a town to live in, my boyfriend at the time (& now husband as of 1 year) suggested I look into Sayville. And what I found was the sweetest little gem of a town with kind people that make you feel part of a close knit family with its adorable shops & cafes on Main Street, the most special quaint beach & park & the festive events they present throughout the year. I spend most days either sunbathing on the beach or walking the park from spring through fall. And each & every time I sit & look out over the water, I feel truly blessed that yes I did buy a house in this special town & that I get to live here & am beyond grateful that this is what I experience on...
