A truly exceptional mountain on its own, but add in a total solar eclipse and it's otherworldly.
The climb is kind of long and gradual. It's steep enough so you definitely wish it would flatten out for a bit but not so steep you have to stop and catch your breath.
The lower overlook is really phenomenal. 360° degree views. With almost 50 pounds of gear, I didn't go to the actual summit since the view was excellent.

Read moreThe 360° view at the top is outstanding. This is mostly a moderately easy hike during the first half and then more steep and rocky during the second half. We did not do the Ridgeline after the summit.
Pro tip. You will think you are at the summit but then there is a 50 ft trail that starts at the back of that landing that takes you to the real summit. If you do not have 360° views, you are not yet there.
Our total out and back time was 4 hours and 15 minutes, including a 45-minute lunch break...
Read moreA fairly steady 20-40 degree incline in a canopy of trees with little views... For about an hour and a half.
But then the trail opens up and you home the rest of the hour (+) on the open ridgeline and the views are MAJESTIC! Definitely recommend the trip for people who want great views, moderate challenge, but nothing technical.
I think the total trip is 7+ miles back and forth. We did it in 6.5 hours because we took our time and I like to take photos. Could definitely do it in half...
