We picked up the trail off of Waywayanda Road, unpaved & windy with lots of potholes. We followed til the end & had to cross a stream to get to the trail. Recent rains washed out trail in sections. The payoff, seeing the King's Chamber! Wow, an impressive man-made cave. So much mystery surrounding this chamber and others in the area. Some say they were used as root cellars by early colonists, others say they date back much further, perhaps to extinct Native American Tribes. Worth the hike!

Beautiful forest, lovely WayWayanda Lake. Photo shows the lake from the boat launch area, in the fall. (Note: Right by the boat launch area is some private property which you should stay out of. Debris is dumped there.)

Great place. Very easy to find camp sites as most of them are off the main gravel path. The reason this is not a 5-star is because I guess I've gotten really spoiled. I wish I can park my car right near the camp spot but u fortunately you have to park 5 minutes away. Also you have to set up camp at least 150 feet away from any roads so that stinks for me as well.

Eitherway, had a very beautiful stay. Magical forest with beautiful lake but again, if you planned on car camping it's a little bit of a drag to go back and forth from your car unloading and loading and then have to drive away to park.

Lol alinol, super nice....

This forest is great for backpacking! I took a bumpy dirt road to the Google maps marker for California hill and it led no where ... But I had service and from the nys parks website found the link to the actual parking area off Gordon road. There was a beautiful creek, and an unmarked trail that was pretty easy to follow. Within the first mile there is almost no where flat to pitch a tent, but I was able to find a spot pretty close to where I came in, about 20 feet off trail. I'm so grateful that there is natural forest for camping and backpacking, I'll...
