Absolutely gorgeous lands! Pillsbury Mountain is a brutal hike. Not helpful that I was hungover. The area contains 168 bodies of water covering 2,400 acres (9.7 km2), 78.3 miles (126 km) of foot trails, and 11 lean-tos. The 138-mile (222 km) Northville-Placid Trail traverses it. The area is located in the town of Ohio in Herkimer County and the towns of Morehouse, Arietta, Lake Pleasant and Indian Lake in Hamilton County. It is bounded on the north by the Moose River Plains area and private lands in the vicinity of Little Moose Lake, Squaw Brook, Snowy Mountain and Squaw Mountain; on the east by NY 30, lands of International Paper and the Spruce Lake-Piseco Lake trail; on the south by private lands north of NY 8, the South Branch of West Canada Creek and an access road to private lands; on the west by West Canada Creek and private lands east of Honnedaga Lake.

Beautiful scenery, nicely maintained trails. On summer weekends you can see, relatively, a lot of people. The wilderness is a place for people who enjoy primitive camping. No facilities or potable water.

Great hiking and camping. Remote, quiet, beautiful. Excellent leantos. Only problem, bugs, deer flies and horse flies. Bring a head net and you'll be fine.

Pristine and remote. It doesn't have much in the way of views, and so is largely ignored by the crowds that frequent the High Peaks looking for a view. It's the flattest area of the Adirondacks, and is predominantly made up of a series of shallow, interconnected lakes. These can get very stagnant during dry stretches in the summer, so prepare for mosquitoes like you've never seen. It's primary appeal is the ability to canoe hundreds of miles with little to no walking. It's a great example of a wilderness area large enough to bear a true resemblance to the ecosystem there prior to Columbus. However, similiar to all other protected areas in the Northeast, it will sadly never be a truly authentic ecosystem until wolves are...

Went on a 3 day backpacking trip here with my boy scout troop and was a wonderful visit. On the second day the trail was very bad and poorly managed but that was just a small section and the rest was amazing. This is a beautiful place and you MUST visit this place at least once. Lean-tos and camping sites were both high quality and the bridges were very pretty and picture worthy. While the trails should be rebuilt a bit it was a very great trip and the surrounding towns were all very friendly and quaint. Worthy of a visit for a few days of fun...
