If you are a hardcore outdoor person with a passion for real nature... If you are not satisfied in just sitting inside a 4 star resort looking out the window at a manicured imitation of the world... If you really want to be outside and experience what the wilderness has to offer... Then you need to check out Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest! Yes, there are more remote places on Earth, and even within the United States, but you won't find anything close to the remote beauty and variety of outdoor activities within 4 hours of Chicago, The Twin Cities, Milwaukee or Madison!

So if you want to to get ' down and dirty' with nature this is the place! Whether you are looking to get muddy on an ATV trail or hike off trail and use your compass skills. If you want to paddle across a remote lake or raft some class 4 rapids. If you are looking for a nice leisurely grouse hunt or a hard core remote deer hunt. Fly fish for trout on world class streams or cast for muskies.

Come to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and lose yourself so you can find yourself! If you look you'll see God...

My first time in Wisconsin. It's a majikal place. A lovely place to live during the summer. I hear the winter's can be extremely brutal. The Loon's are the most amazing thing here, that you hear. They don't stop!! Woo, woot, whee, ninnee, ninnee, aaahahaaaahahaha (not kidding). I've tried to shoot them while I was staying here at a Lake side cabin (with a camera, of course!).

I stayed mainly on Maiden Lake but there are dozens of lakes all around.

Around 45 million years ago the North American continent almost cleaved in half around what is now the U.S. Canadian border from an upsell in lava fissures forming. The lava eventually receded, cooled, and left lava tube.

The lakes were formed from the last ice age when the glaciers came down from Canada. The ice encountered a mixture of hard rock and softer limestone and sediment. They carved through the softer rock like butter and when they receded due to warmer temperatures, they left the lakes, that became fed from thru the lave tubes from springs further north.

Come check it out if you...

Text book forest. There are lots of trees, bushes, sticks, leaves and even some rocks. If you are looking for the forest experience, look no further. This place reminds me alot of every forest i have ever been in. I felt compelled to write a review because i know that when i am planning on visiting a forest, i like to go online first and check the reviews. You know, to make sure that it's going to be extra foresty. One time i went to visit a forest and i made the mistake of not checking the reviews first. BIG MISTAKE! The ground was all hard, there was minimal plant life, garbage everywhere and the trees didnt have any branches. Turns out they were light posts and I was in a Walmart parking lot! It was pretty embarassing but I already pitched my tent and had a fire going so I stayed the course, like any true outdoorsman. So make sure you read the reviews on...

My husband and I camp here every year at Franklin Lake. We absolutely love it. This place is in the middle of the forest with campsites that have picnic tables and fire rings. You can camp in a tent or camper. We tent it. This year some of the lake sites became reservable. Others are first come first serve. We see plenty of wildlife as we hike on the trails. You can fish, swim, hike or just relax.

Very beautiful bring hiking shoes or boots you'll definitely get your exercise for the day 🤣 but worth it I took my wife and kids following friends and had a awesome time to see the colors of the tree tops of the rock on the mountain we came a little early so we might make a second trip it was still cool to see it just goes to show you how small you are in this world ❤

March/April 2022, things began to melt during the day and freeze up tight at night. Perfect weather for a Maple Festival in Phelps Wisconsin. The town above the frozen lake, snow pilled high in all the parking lots, the high school/"Festival location", visiting local farms to see syrup production in action... what a fine day we had.
