Did this hike August 20th and walked up and down the dried out river, not a drop of water on the water fall but it was gorgeous regardless. Later looking at pictures online I was surprised to see there was actually a river here at some point! As for the trails, unless I missed something, there really aren't any? Not anything long anyways. We followed one (which was very vague, see photo attached to see how we wandered!) until it basically led us to private land. I know this is meant to be kept wild but a few signs explaining the trail (or lack there of) would have been appreciated! I was surprised to see reviews saying it's child/stroller friendly. Unless you are just going to see the waterfall, I would not bring a small child here to hike. I kept thinking how glad I was not to have brought my 4 year old. I could totally see 8, 9, 10+ year olds loving this however! Just keep away from the ledges.. I really wanted to learn more of the history of the area, but couldn't find anything online. Pleasantly surprised to not encounter many nats...
Read moreNice short hike to see waterfalls for Mother’s Day. Went with my kids and parents and the path was even enough to make it manageable for them. A majority of the hiking paths are on the opposite side of the river which you have to skip rocks to get across which was fun but for older generations this can be challenging and limit their experience. Did have a port-a-potty to use, but other than that no other real amenities. Only two picnic tables no other seating available. No maps of park to see where to go and what wasn’t allowed or if it was worth it to travel down a path. There was a random house by the parking lot no clue what that was about…. No information available on history of the area or waterfalls whatsoever just keep out signs at the top of the waterfall….We had planned on having a picnic but had to go to another park to do so which was annoying. Limited parking spaces we got there early enough and that helped but leaving was a zoo. No shelter from the sun. Was neat to go behind the waterfalls tho! (After climbing down the...
Read moreThose looking for information on trails! (like I was): There are no marked, mapped, maintained trails here. There are three trail-ish trails. Two come off from the large viewing area (a very short walk from the parking lot). The one to the right of the area takes you around to the top of the falls, then continues along the river towards the road. The one to the left of the area takes you either down along the river, or through the woods a bit. The third one you will see going off into the prairie before you get to the viewing area. This one takes you along the river but up on a bit of a bluff. There's a neat natural bridge structure along here. This trail goes about 0.2 miles before it goes down a steep hill and becomes less of a trail (I didn't go past that part). I wouldn't say any of the trails I found (I only followed for as long as they were easy to track) went farther than a quarter mile.
No pets :( It's written on a sign by the...
