Easily One of the nicest hikes I've done in the adk to date. I was so obsessed with high peaks I never realized how gorgeous trails like this can be. Not too much traffic or bugs. It's not a hard hike but a slow and steady climb of switch backs. Once you get to the Ridgeline though...wow! Views go on for days and you can summit about 4 different peaks. The actual Jay summit is the last peak off to the right! This is a must hike if you're in the Adirondacks! Pretty much anyone in shape can do it, no crazy scrambles so its a good hike for kids and the elderly. I didn't use polls but I would bring them just incase.
