Newport is a unique park in the state system. All of the campus options are remote - requiring a hike in of 0.25 to 1 mile. Each campsite has a bear box, fure ring and primitive toilet. There are not a lot of miles of Trail-- perhaps 8-10 miles total) but they are all very nice trails. This is also a dark sky area so it weather and moon phase cooperates you can have some fantastic star gazing. The beach is very well maintained. Best of all -- this is not a popular destination so you can really enjoy nature without the crowds of...

Absolutely love this spot. It was a great hike for myself and six year old. There are bathrooms at the start of the trail by parking lot number three. There’s also a small sandy beach available there. The day we were there there was also someone giving an educational tour about trees. There are so many lovely and wonderful hidden spots just off of the main trails that lead to small beaches. It was very easy to be away from others even though the parking lot was full. We absolutely...

Such an awesome area to come and stargaze!!! I love that this beach area stays open late so you can be there after dark. It was absolutely beautiful, calm, and peaceful. It was a far drive from where we were staying bout 100% worth it. Make sure you bring a flashlight because it is pitch black. Although your eyes will eventually adjust. I would go back to this beach to stargaze again. And probably even in the day time to hike! I...

This beach is a little out of the way, but worth the trip. We found a nice spot and had it almost completely to ourselves. The one downside is that when we were there, there were quite a few small, biting sand flies. Putting our feet up a little solved that problem, and I'm not sure if it's like that all the time.
