We had a lovely afternoon with our interpreter, Frank, and the other hospitable staff at Black Point Estate. It was absolutely fascinating, so well restored and so authentic. It was like going back in time for a couple of hours. Also felt like our time was well spent because we learned so much about not only Black Point, but Lake Geneva and customs and traditions of the time(s). Frank (our interpreter) infused his real-life stories of having grown up in the area, which coordinated well with the facts we were learning about the estate....and he made everything so real and understandable for us. There were 2 things we might suggest: I would have loved to see perhaps a woman's and a man's garment that might have been worn to the 3 fancy meals daily. (Just seeing a pair of woman's shoes from the time period made you shake your head, as was the men's woolen swim suit:). The other suggestion would be the chance to see a bit of the grounds...gardens, farm, and other outbuildings. All said and done, I'd go back in a heartbeat as I was fascinated by the presentation Frank gave as well as the integrity of the program in its entirety....and I can't really say I'm a history "buff". I'd also recommend this as a "must do" for anyone visiting or living in the area. Great job WI Historical Society and dedicated interpreters and volunteers. Thanks for a...
Read moreMy kinda museum tour. We had a lovely host ( Rita) with a great sense of humor. She told us the history of the house along with the characters that occupied it. We were able to see 2 floors at this time and walk along the grounds. This mansion originally was 100 acres and now has about 6 acres. They are building another mansion next door. I believe a family heir who revived the beer receipt in 2022. There are 13 bedrooms and several bathrooms. Each room has a story to tell. We can only arrive by boat and walk up the 120 steps to the porch. Worth the time & money. Watch out for the boat when it pulls out. We got soaked in the rear. But the black point tour...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of touring the estate with Faith as our guide. She was informative, with a good sense of humor, and very thorough as she took us back in time. We really enjoyed having her show us around and educate us; she was instructive without being pedantic. Even my children - 9 and 15 - were pleasantly surprised by how cool it was to look around and hear about the family, their contributions, and their impact.
The experience was absolutely worth it, and one of the highlights of our trip to Lake Geneva. Definitely get a bottle of beer from the gift shop, and spring for the boxed lunch - my group was pretty hungry by the time the...
