Though I've lived in this general area for MANY years, I had no idea this sweet little place existed.

My sweetheart introduced me to this art museum about a year ago, & I went bonkers! I ooh'd & ahh'd & took countless pictures! :)

A million (probably more) pieces of broken glass accent/decorate every stone wall & every structure, as well as a quaint little "church" in the front right corner!

I would love to be married here, but [& my reason for a 4*] it is really small & a bit difficult to access for those less steady on their feet. I wonder if it's be possible to MAKE it more accessible.

In any case, you should make time to take a walk through the Paul and Matilda Wegner grotto some day. Take your time and absorb the creativity and wonder! :D

It is located just after turning onto Hy 71 from Hy 27 between...

So unique. I bring family and friends here to visit and see all the unique glass/cement creations! Dont miss the cemetery at the end of the road... go past the house and it will be on your left. Matching headstones back there!!! This is such an incredibly beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to all those that help to restore and keep this place in such good shape. My kids are already talking about bringing their kids there too. However, I dont recommend kids here unless they can listen and when u say dont touch to them, they better listen or they Will get cut. I'd say maybe 8+ all depending on your child's maturity. Also I suggest shoes but sandals are ok if you are just walking...

What a wonderful thing to come across while driving through our beautiful state!

The history behind this is interesting. Started in 1929 after retirement, this family had no formal training in the arts, they just wanted to make something beautiful, and it certainly is.

Some caution is warranted here, as the sculptures are all made up of broken glass shards. I backed up to get a photo and got stuck in the leg (no damage to the artwork or myself), so you do need to be aware of your surroundings, especially if bringing young children here.

There is a small amount of parking here, and a porta-potti located across the road from the parking area.

I highly...

Big fan of outsider artists and this site did not disappoint. I will definitely be stopping by again in the future to recall the space when the chapel is open. This space is sometimes referred to as the glass church because of the amazing little chapel decorated with glass. I visited on a beautiful Sunday morning which felt perfect with the heavily Christian themed art. I worry about deterioration over time, but know it is in good hands. Worth a visit if you enjoy unique art.

A very cool place with a lot of history. If you're into weird and obscure attractions and art, this is it. It's small, but there is so much there and quite a lot of detail. It was beyond enjoyable and had a lot of very cool information about Paul and Matilda. Thank you for keeping this wonderful place open!! Definitely a place you'll have to visit more than once because you won't be able to take it all in the first time! Pictures so NOT do it justice!!

Unexpected roadside attraction. It showed up on my map when I was planning a drive to LaCrosse, so we took the brief detour off the interstate to see it. The ship, wedding cake, prayer garden and beautiful little chapel are all made out of colored glass. Took the backroads from there into LaCrosse for a pretty drive.
