Visited while we were in the area to celebrate a birthday. 6 person seating policy was stringently enforced immediately. Telling grandparents that they can't sit near their grandkid on their birthday is nonsense. It was our second stop, so we were all completely sober and were just looking for a quick tasting before we moved on.
I could understand that policy if we rolled up in a party bus shouting and clearly inebriated, but that was not the case at all. Also odd that they allow unleashed dogs to run around completely free, but a family can't sit together and enjoy a glass of wine. I like dogs as much as the next guy, but if you're trying to cultivate some sort of elitist frigid environment (clearly the intended ambience) it seems odd to not have a policy requiring dogs to be on a leash. Multiple dogs ran right under our table and jumped on us while we were trying to enjoy our wine.
This is a shame because despite being treated like little kids and getting a snide attitude from the person at the gate, the wine was actually pretty good. Our server was great, and the view was nice. I felt bad for our server, I can't imagine how much grief he gets from customers about the policies there.
I would have gladly purchased a bottle or two if (who I assume to be) the manager hadn't given us such an attitude on our way in and out. As it is, none of us will be coming back and neither will anyone we know. I doubt management cares (seems like they're doing just fine running their awkward wine library) but be prepared if you go. Super awkward experience all around.
They'll probably respond to this by accusing me of not understanding their field or of being rude (I've seen the same canned response on every one star review), but I worked in the service industry for over ten years and I can tell you with absolute certainty that this was an abnormal customer experience. I'm sure it works for very small groups who meet the exact standards this place is attempting to cultivate, but certainly not...
ย ย ย Read moreAfter having a very pleasant experience here last year, todays visit completely negated the positive. We arrived 10-15 minutes before closing, and the parking lot was almost completely full, outside tables also full. The employee couldnโt run out to the parking lot fast enough to deny service to us. We realize we were close to closing time, however, with a full venue, it would seem that a purchase of a bottle or quick couple of glasses to be consumed in a timely fashion would be acceptable, and more than likely the four of us would finish well before the multiple groups with full bottles on their tables outside would. After bargaining with the employee to come in and purchase a bottle, my fiancรฉ and I went outside to grab a quick picture of the beautiful, vibrant early Autumn scenery. The same employee in the parking lot once again, ran to tell another employee outside to not serve us and proceeded to point at us (insulting). Thereโs a way to go about business procedures, and the awareness among us about said businesses is extensively comprehensive. However, this was completely and utterly insulting. With that being said, my family member still purchased a bottle of wine despite the treatment, (and once again, a full line for check out inside). If we were on a group bus or visibly intoxicated I could slightly understand the treatment, however, four older adults arriving in a minivan being denied any sort of service isnโt justifiable. After the last almost two years now in the pandemic, I find it completely incoherent to turn any sort of business or income away. My family members will more than likely cancel their membership and you can count on my earnings being spent at the multiple other wineries, that treat their customers with respect, on beautiful...
ย ย ย Read moreIt goes with some thought that I am making this bold statement, but we have our new favorite winery in the Finger Lakes, in Boundary Breaks!
The signage at the street is not sizeable and if you are not paying attention you might drive right by it, but Waze got us there without issue. It is located a ways down a scenic, but somewhat dust gravel road, but once you get to the end, it opens up to a great view of the lake below.
The owner greeted us and we were lucky enough to get one of the nearly dozen optimal seats on the edge of the patio area, with an unobstructed view of the vineyard and the lake below. They make your visit more of an "experience" vs. just a tasting in my opinion. We were able to do our flight right at our outdoor seats. The pours were great too.
We were impressed with the presentation, friendliness of the staff and the options available. They set the benchmark high for how a wine tasting should be. From moving the umbrella above out Adirondack chair to give us as much or as little sun as either of us wanted, so lite food options etc. We enjoyed a local cheese.
The inside is stunning and even the bathrooms are pretty incredible with some funny artwork (men's room). They think of all the little things to make your experience special. We drove a couple hours to et there but already plan to go back next week.
We could relax and enjoy this place all day. It's worth noting at busy times that they limit the extent of your stay in what I consider the VIP seating area. They waved it the day were were there (mid week). If you like Rieslings especially you need to get here. They even have...
