We were one of the first people to buy their wine. We came back year after year to support them and during the pandemic we bought tons of bottles In hopes that it would help them stay afloat. We exchanged stories about our growth and shared stories of our families travels and other vineyards across the world through out the years. We felt a personal connection with Nostrano. So we came back with our 1 year old so they can see him from last year but it was extremely crowded. There was no longer a personal feel to it and instead of a welcome hello we were met with overwhelmed staff and fast turnover. We asked the hostess how we need to navigate if we wanted to do a tasting. My mom is older and was a bit frazzled with the crowds and confusion for the seating. The hostess seemed annoyed with us. She told us that if we wanted a tasting we have to go to the bar ourselves and we can sit on the grass or bring a lawn chair but she didn’t see any empty tables so we needed to sit on the grass. So we waited on a long line, bought our flight and sat at an empty table that was on the grass. It was different but we were so happy about the growth of the winery. We watched people sit wherever they wanted, absorbed the different atmosphere and got halfway through our flight when the hostess came over and said she has a reservation for this table. So we moved and sat on the grass with our son. She didn’t seat anyone at the table the entire time we were there. We were done in 10 min and decided to never come back after another family sat that didn’t have a reservation and she didn’t say anything to them.
We were so excited to see their vineyard booming with business but they made us feel ridiculously unwelcome. We’ve referred weddings, friends and family to their business and we got kicked off of a table and had to sit on the grass. Not to mention behind the bar the lady was so overwhelmed she told us to not look at her because She wasn’t going to help us.
We have worked in hospitality, we understand reservations, and crowds. If they had reservations it should have been expressed, written or on line. When we had left the table a random group of people sat there and weren’t kicked off. I’m so saddened and disappointed about the way they treated us. We are all good with growth of a business and we understand that at one point this was a unique secret for just a moment that we loved to be apart of. We would have been over the moon for them and their success had they treated us with kindness. We’ve never felt unwelcome the way we felt today. I’m so sad and...
Read moreI vacillated on my rating for Nostrano but ultimately decided to give it the full rating. The staff was really nice and very attentive. The setting they created with their barn is rustic and cozy, which is appreciated on cold days. The indoor area of the barn has multiple heating elements. The main doors are kept cracked open for ventilation so your best bet is to sit in the corners for full warmth. Their outdoor areas had picnic tables as well as igloos but I'm not sure how efficient their heating elements were.
Their food options were perfect for post hike cravings. It was the most clutch comfort foods, including pizza, wings (Thai Chili, BBQ, Buffalo), sliders, apple fritters etc. All of the food was brought to your table which helped keep everyone at their tables except to order. The distance between tables seemed adequate. In addition to their fantastic wines, they had beer (IPAs, & Stouts) by the can. They even had some hot options [e.g. bourbon(?)spiked ciders] that were to die for! My only minor gripe here was that one of the pizzas we ordered had a slightly burnt crust but try to ignore that for the purposes of this review.
I'll definitely be back to Nostrano. I'm a little disappointed that they're closed in January, but considering the times and the unpredictability of the weather at times, I understand. I'll be first in line once they reopen in Feb. Are you...
Read moreI arrived pretty close to opening on a Friday, but their outdoor tasting area is really lovely, incredible view of the rolling hills, and there was plenty of space despite reservations. I can't speak to the cooked food, but their charcuterie was plentiful and tasty, and the red wine was surprisingly good. I don't hold out for really crunchy, full-bodied fruited reds without them being a bit too oaky or full of notes I don't care for (leather, smoke, etc), but despite having very drinkable whites both dry and semi (although the nose and body of the dry was better), the star here was their baco noir. Really lush. Really savory, wonderful black fruit notes with a bit of tannin, just enough oak for body (I'm talking the 2021 I think, since that's what I bought -- but I tried it via their tasting menu). Easy to spend two hours lounging and eating and drinking -- bar staff was kind, knowledgeable, and really attentive. 100% would come back here, will have to in order to buy more of their wine. If you're waffling on which Hudson Valley/Catskills winery to try,...
