We camped here with friends/family and the serene outlook of the place is absolutely beautiful. Our campsite was a great size and peaceful. The bathrooms near our site was SPOTLESS and STOCKED! I could not believe I was in a camping bathroom because it was. It was so clean! The park and lake area was really clean and well taken care of. I am usually not a swim in the lake person, but the lake water was clear and clean.
My Downfall and complaint. We were harassed throughout the night. We got the memo about the quiet hours but to have the workers come and tell us, that they get complaints all the time, by the same person and to not worry about anything only 10 mins later to be threatened by a sneaky and not so friendly park ranger. We were not pleased. We understand the quiet hours rule and have never had a issue anywhere else we camped at. We had the music at a very fair volume. We laughed and chilled as anyone should. It's When asked to quiet it down, we obeyed with no issues. We were watched and harassed throughout the night for no reason. It ruined our experience at this campsite.
If you are not in bed and quiet by 9pm type of people (like us when we go camping) BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Other than the horrible NIGHT experience we had. The area is very beautiful and serene. Will we go back again? Probably not for camping, but for a day trip. I think the place is most definitely...
Read moreThis is a nice, well-maintained campground and overall facility. If you are here just for the day, there is a nice beach area that's supervised and orderly, with clean restrooms (albeit quite dated) and canoe/kayak rentals. On the weekends there is a concession that sells simple foods and drinks (breakfast burritos, hot dogs, etc.). The hiking trails are nicely kept and there are several options for going around the lake and the surrounding areas.
If you are camping, there are quite a few open spots for tents or campers, and they seem to have added simple cabins in a few of the sites. These are just wooden cabins with what looks like bunk beds--no electricity, water, kitchen, or anything else. None of the sites have electric or water hookups, so this campground is more rustic. The fire pits are also more like one-sided chimneys, so if you are looking for a campground where everyone can sit in a circle around the fire, you would want to look elsewhere. Dogs are also allowed everywhere, whereas there are some state parks where there are "no dog" areas.
The people camping here seemed courteous for the most part and the area was generally quiet during the posted "quiet hours" of 10pm - 8am. There was one group near us who blasted a radio late into the night, but generally you should consider yourself lucky if you're camping near only one rude group, as...
Read moreBowman State Park is hands-down one of our favorite places to camp. Every time we go, it feels like the perfect mix of peace, adventure, and beauty all rolled into one.
The campsites are well laid out, spacious, and give you just the right balance of privacy and community. Whether you’re pitching a tent or setting up something bigger, it never feels cramped. The park is kept really clean, and you can tell the staff takes pride in maintaining the grounds.
What really makes Bowman shine is the scenery. From the trails that wind through beautiful forests, to the quiet lake that’s perfect for fishing, kayaking, or just relaxing by the water — it’s the kind of place where you instantly feel unplugged from the chaos of everyday life. Sunsets here are something else too… it’s like the whole park slows down and gives you a show.
We’ve camped at a lot of different places, but Bowman State Park keeps us coming back. It’s family-friendly, nature-rich, and has that “hidden gem” feel without being impossible to get to. If you love camping, hiking, or just want a place to recharge in the outdoors, this is it.
Can’t recommend it enough — we’ll be coming back...
