I had wanted to visit the cultural museum for a while and decided to visit back in November.
The kind gal named Jean helped me learn about Menominee traditions and played a video for me about their naturally minded agriculture traditions. It was honestly great to see all the great Native art pieces that were carefully crafted and tell a rich history.
It makes me feel a bit of melancholy that most people don't see the inherently important truths of the Menominee and other Native people. I wish Wisconsin's State DNR took tips from the Menominee on forest management. Some of the best forests I've had the privilege to see!
The gift shop was nice and I bought a medicine wheel for my Dad, a photo print from Isaiah Brokenleg a Native photographer, and I bought myself a bar of sweet grass scented soap! It's my new favorite soap and I wouldn't have found it without my trip to the Menominee Reservation!
Thanks for being kind to me despite being a big brute-looking outsider! I can't wait to return to the reservation so I can try the wild rice.
