Minocqua Winter Park is a fantastic place to enjoy the outdoors in winter, and particularly winter sports. The extensive ski trail system (groomed for classic and skate) offers a variety of terrain, topography and challenge for beginners through experts. They also make the experience fun for children by offering cookies along the trail and wildlife facts at stations along the way. Warming huts offer tea, snacks and cozy fires. The park grooms their wilderness trails for fat bikes, setting a great track. The only downside are the branches (some quite big) that reach across the track on some trails and make it difficult not to run into the parallel classic ski tracks. You can, however, connect the trails to a pond that’s scenic and fun. The park also offers ice skating, snow tubing and snowshoeing. The chalet is cozy, offering chairs around a small fireplace, a refreshment area with hot foods and beverages, and a small ski shop. I’d prefer to give a 4.5 star rating, because the only reason MWP doesn’t get a 5 from me is the warming hut is chalet and gets quite crowded with the number of people who take advantage of all the...
Read moreAs of early January 2021, the website said there were indoor bathrooms. That was FALSE and not discovered until arrival, nor did the ski shop mention it when setting up lessons there. I see they have updated the site...finally. Anyway bathrooms were "closed due to covid" so you have to use a port-o-potty WITHOUT a water or hand sanitizer station. Excuse me, how is that "safe" from germs including covid?! It's completely UNSAFE and UNHEALTHY! Plus when you pay several hundred dollars for a group lesson, you ought to be able to use the indoor bathroom and wash your hands! As for cross country skiing, the trails are not marked well and many places are missing signs. There was not much snow despite the website stating "4 inches on the trails". This meant a lot of of places didn't have tracks for classic skiing. At one point, we couldn't even finish one trail because we had no idea which of the trails (4 way intersection) was the correct way back. So we turned around and went back the way we came, very...
Read moreMy family and I want to move up here so we can come here more often. The best Nordic Skiing in the Midwest (or probably anywhere!) . I'll try and name everything we love: gorgeous trails with excellent grooming, all abilities, and so lightly traveled (I skied 7 miles today and saw no one). Wonderful staff...make sure to get trail guidance from them...tell them what you are in the mood for and they will...quite literally...make it happen. Special touches: tea house, nighttime skiing, cookie trail and games for kids. Lessons are wonderful and a great value. Special shout out to Bill (ski instructor) and Erin (chalet manager and Facebook page creator). Also expert equipment repair and advice. If you love Nordic skiiing, race on over. This...
