The bugs made us take a few stars off unfortunately. I wish we could give it more but we found 4 ticks on us and the dogs in the first few days of being here. My husband and I both grew up in WI and we never remember being swarmed, even the poor dogs got swarmed. We sprayed and both our neighbors bombed their camps and the mosquitos and ticks were still unbearable. They didn't care about our multiple bug sprays. We had to have a bug massacre every night before bed in order to not get bit in our sleep.. that is the only downside, but it was enough to make us leave our spot a few weeks early. We lasted 12 days out of the month we paid for 😅
The staff are seriously super friendly and keep the camp grounds pristine. They stock propane and fire wood on site at the camp store. The grounds are huge with a few separate areas, the main camp ground, atv camping area and another what they call "more remote" area. We chose the more remote one because we like to be farther away from people. The space fit our 32' RV no issues with electric and water. They have a pump service that you can sign up for each week called the honey wagon (we love the name), just like the rest of the staff, the gentleman who mans the truck was also super friendly and we were thankful for thia service. They have a dump station up by the front office as well. Many areas had beaches or easy access to the water. There were little beaches really close to our camp spot. We saw trails but didn't get to use them, too buggy. The back roads were nice for walking the dogs and biking away from all the hustle and bustle of the campground on the weekends. Camp filled up on weekends, but it is not surprising with Lake Pentenwell and Castle Rock lake so easily accessible. These are some of the best and cleanest lakes in Southern WI in our opinion. The lake is gorgeous, with its sandy bottom, clean water, thousands of dragon flies and gorgeous sunsets, I just wish we could of enjoyed it without all the mosquito bites and possible...
Read moreNice place to camp. The bathrooms are okay. There was a playground and volleyball ball net but there were tons of picker weeds around the play area. The Beach area was really big, the shore was nice without any large rocks and the swim area didn't get deeper than 4 feet. The water had lots of green stuff in it but at least the beach was open. The camping area was nice and flat and having water hookup at the site was really nice. There were some rough looking yearly sites/campers with one having a few dogs that looked really mean and would bark every time someone would walk by. Having the option to buy wireless internet for $3 a day was really nice! The place is on the decline with some needed updates coming up but all-in-all, I would...
Read moreI have only used the flushable bathrooms and showers that are closest to the beach area. They are full of spiders, spiderwebs and other bugs. Ive been going they for several years. The cleanliness of the bathroom and showers has always been an issue. Moldy shower curtains, moldy smelling showers, over flowing garbage, smelly garbage( only 1 can but they finally put 1 small one in each stall ! Yeah !) If they took a broom weekly and knocked down all the spider webs that would help wonders. A lot of the rules have changed for weekly/monthly spots so beware of all the changes. The pit bathrooms by the beach smell HORRIBLE ! The beach could be cleaner and it would be great if people picked up their dogs poop...
