Beautiful park. Camping facilities offer all spectrums of cabins, tent, and RV camping. B cabins are a great spot (well appointed and clean for 100 yo cabins!) not too close to neighbors, there's still a feeling of seclusion. The canopy that's grown up above the cabins keep them fairly cool and comfortable for sleeping. Park rangers are very helpful and kind; they also work quietly and try not to disturb your sense of being out in nature, but they're there checking trails, cleaning up after guests, taking care of this gorgeous (haha) area . The trails are well maintained and every hike is a new, beautiful experience with many options for varying levels of ability. Don't let disability stop you from visiting; you can access most views from a vehicle. The little café near A loop actually has great food that is reasonably priced. My super duper only complaint is not having a pool on that end of the park means a 30+ minute drive through the park from cabins to pool and it just doesn't work out well, takes a good chunk of time out of the day just traveling back & forth from the pool, especially with no cell reception. Unless you happen to use Spectrum for service, I suggest investing in walkie-talkies for use inside the park, especially with kiddos. That was the one thing we wished we'd packed to be able to communicate with each other when separated. But not having cell reception was a very healthy break for our family and our 8 year old had a blast, met new friends, basically learned to swim in one afternoon, and did not once complain or ask to use his tablet. Overall, we loved every minute of our stay, met great people, and already have two weeks booked for 2024, one week being a joint holiday with the family we met last year! Also, when we arrived and I finished setting up our cabin, I went for a walk to the Lower Falls and saw my first bald eagle! Great way to...
Read moreWe visited Letchworth State Park in mid-October, right before the peak of fall season, and the experience was nothing short of breathtaking. Known as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” the park boasts a stunning gorge carved by the Genesee River, offering some of the most picturesque landscapes you’ll find, especially during autumn. The vibrant fall colors create a natural spectacle that’s perfect for photography—this place is a goldmine for Instagram-worthy shots.
One of the highlights is the park’s famous waterfalls, and while the scenery is incredible, there are a few tips that can enhance your visit. If you plan to hike the Pink 1 Trail, I recommend skipping the start at Inspiration Point. Instead, drive directly to the Upper Falls viewpoint and begin your walk from there. The stretch from Inspiration Point is more of a basic sidewalk, and starting from the Upper Falls will get you right into the heart of the action without wasting time.
A word of caution: the park is rather limited when it comes to food options. There aren’t many places to grab a meal, so it’s wise to pack your own snacks or a picnic if you plan to spend the day there. This way, you can relax and enjoy the natural beauty without worrying about where to find food.
As for the dam, it’s somewhat underwhelming compared to the rest of the park’s stunning attractions. If you’re pressed for time, I’d suggest focusing your visit around the falls and skipping the dam altogether—it doesn’t quite match the grandeur of the waterfalls and surrounding landscapes.
All in all, Letchworth State Park is a must-visit for nature lovers, especially in the fall. The serene beauty of the gorges, the roaring waterfalls, and the vivid autumn colors make it a perfect escape. Just plan ahead for food, focus on the key scenic spots, and you’re in for an...
Read moreIt’s a beautiful park with swimming pool and many other activities to do for a day. The entrance fee is $10 but you don’t have to pay if you are camping in their campground which is not very good. I will never camp again here. It’s close to next sites and too many RV. I used tent and it stinks septic from the RVs. I felt like sleeping near a restroom.
The park is divided into north and south. And all beautiful spots are in the south but beware that the cell phone reception is patchy in the south. So, make sure to download Google offline maps.
The park has a good number of places to eat, buy ice and firewood. If you are not camping, it’s a good one day visit. The park is not huge. You can get from north to south in 30 mins drive.
Out of the three falls, lower falls is the most beautiful with a bridge and good steps to climb down.
Upper falls is good but nothing special other than the bridge that makes it look different. Moreover, there is a steel stairs if you hike from middle falls. There is a parking lot if you don’t want to hike the steps.
Lower falls is the most beautiful one with some hikes, River on the bridge and sliding water from the rocks. The steps were muddy due to rains. So, be prepared for it.
If you love hiking, you can park your car at Inspiration point and hike to middle falls and upper falls. It took about 1.5 hours for me - both ways.
And then drive to lower falls to park and hike down to the falls. Highly recommended if you...
