Read moreMy family actually learned about this tour from a flyer posted at the bathrooms of Letchworth State Park campgrounds. Thank goodness we saw that flyer because this ended up being the best feature we saw among many great sites in the area. We just missed a tour, and the ranger (Tom) was nice enough to point out some trails to hike and lunch places to consider while waiting for the next tour. We hiked the wilderness trail, and grabbed lunch nearby. Our tour began and our guide (Tom again) was fantastic and VERY knowledgeable. None of us had ever toured a dam before, and were extremely impressed. What a site! We learned a lot, and really enjoyed the engaging tour with our guide. I ran to the Power Line shelter and back for a challenging 12 mi. and 1000' elevation run.
Trail is well marked and maintained. Saw and heard some turkey, a hawk and lot of whitetail sign.
Trail will be muddy if it's been raining.
