Horrible customer service and no common sense approach to WI Learn to Ski deal. The point is to get younger kids into the sport as both Skiing and Snowboarding are seeing a decline in participation with the younger generations. Was excited to take my children and check out a new ski hill, as they are close to my home, but will never recommend them to anyone based on my experience with their office manager today. Go to Granite Peak or anywhere else, no need to give these people your money. Nordic Mountain just doesn't get it and does not care about getting kids into the sport. Just a greedy resort, apparently ran by people with no business sense.
Edit to response from Nordic:
My issue has nothing to do with you being sold out on Sunday. I would have came another day midweek. It has to do with your poor customer service and short sightedness. My issue with the Learn to Ski deal from your resort, is the fact you won't allow those 7 and under to get the same cost, even though they are excluded from the lesson portion. Makes zero sense to not offer that same deal/cost, when removing the lesson, and allow parents to pay the extra $65 you'd normally charge for a one on one lesson. You'd still get the $29 for lift/rental and an additional $65 for the lesson. You'd rather charge them extra, which is the exact opposite of what other resorts with common sense and business acumen do. Granite Peak chose not to offer the deal, you are correct. I had no intentions on taking my kids there this week, but after the poor customer service I received from your mgmt., I called them and had a much better experience. They were polite, which your office manager was not, and even without them not offering the WI Learn to Ski deal, they still come out a better value for my family of 10 that will be going this week. Your greed in wanting to charge more for our children 5 and under because of your decision to not allow them into the lesson portion no matter the availability, cost your business 100's of dollars and potential repeat customers. Nothing about that decision to charge kids that are excluded from the lesson portion due to age, says to me that you're interested in promoting the sport to the youth. It screams "GIVE US YOUR MONEY"
Response:
You're misinformed that the office manager conveyed that the cost would be $20 + $65. She quoted $100+ for the kids under 5 rental/lift ticket/lesson. That was the entire reason for our disappointment and decision to look elsewhere. Thank you for the replies and allowing me to understand the...
Read moreI want to preface that the staff and the facility itself was quite great but I had two glaring frustrations that I think warrant letting others know.
1.) When I arrived I realized that the “online price” was drastically different than the price you paid at the counter. On one hand, I get it - have people complete it ahead of time to help me ease the crunch at the ticket counter. However, here’s the wild part. I was a little surprised at the ticket counter when the price I was being charged was $25 more than the online price. Admittedly I didn’t purchase online but curious I asked the counter worker, “Oh but I must have had to do that in advance - at least a day right?” To which he responds “No you could have literally stood outside the door and done it on your phone and gotta the online price.” So, Do that. You will save a significant amount. I’m bewildered as to this practice but it is what it is. He wouldn’t cancel my transaction in progress so I could do that, but I wanted to let others know.
2.) The ski hill opens at 10 a.m. and I arrived around 10:15 and purchased the 6 hour lift ticket . That means that even if I immediately stepped on the hill at 10 a.m. my lift ticket couldn’t possibly expire until 4:00 pm. At 2:57 I was scanned at the lift (totally normal practice) and was told my lift ticket had expired. I laughed and explained to the worker (who ironically was the same worker who had told me about the lift ticket in my #1.) that it was impossible it had expired since the first 6 hour window couldn’t expire until 4 p.m. He shrugged and said that on my next run down I had to go to ticketing and find out why my ticket wasn’t working and I wasn’t allowed back on the hill. So I had to stop skiing, head into the office where they scanned my tag, shrugged and said “it should be fine but if it happens again, have the scanner walk with you back here.” It wasn’t the biggest deal but it was literally impossible for the lift ticket to have expired. I was there with my school club and I was with some students whose tickets scanned fine. I explained we all bought them together but it didn’t matter.
The workers were great and it’s not their fault - they were mostly high school kids doing their absolute best. But the practices and infrastructure left something...
Read moreThis is a fabulous family place for skiing, boarding and tubing. Prices are reasonable and competitive. All ages can find something to do here. A very nice beginner area with some really good ski instructors if you want to take lessons. Several different runs with varying difficulty so a great place for you if your group has different skiing abilities. The terrain park is also set up with varying degrees of difficulty and is very popular with the boarders. Tubing down the runs is exhilarating even for a 65 year old like me! The staff are very helpful and seem very interested in accommodating any request within reason. The staff is also great with setting up rental skis, poles, boards and helmets. The lodge has great food with both a cafeteria style counter in the lower level and a bar with food off the menu on the upper level overlooking the hill. There's also a very nice outside deck to sit out and enjoy the scene. They really make an effort to keep up with snow making even when Mother Nature does not cooperate and I understand they have added numerous new snow guns this year to assist in snow making. They did a fantastic job last year keeping snow on the runs even though Mother Nature was very uncooperative so I can only imagine how much better they will be at getting fresh snow on the runs this year with their new equipment. This is a great place for winter fun. You won't be...
