A high recommend. Excellent 👍 place for a moderate walk to minor hike. (Gripping traction sneakers good idea)
Multiple step decent down (2 sets steps total), could be trouble for individuals walking with cane, or minor walking issues.
A medium level of endurance is suggested.
Views stunning, and Albany capital visible from view points. Pasture playground for kids + pets, and family leisurely picnic area.
I was a little disappointed of low waterfall flow level off high cliffs. Due minimal above river water in Summer months. (Hiked July 4th)
Beautiful green tree and grassy views.
Visited center most helpful staff (recommended looping around) and clean bathrooms. Ranger suggested exiting left Visitor Center, walking down to steps, and looping back up around climbing another set steep steps.
Leisurely took 60 minutes to complete loop, steps, with occasional photo shots at a minimal pace.
Considering going back in fall with New York leave color change.

Read moreThe Indian Ladder Trail is the Albany area's best hike! The views from the top of escarpment are phenomenal. The trail has well built staircases and rails to protect against a serious fall from the ledges that are a part of the trail. As you walk along you will notice many unique rock formations. The area is also fossil rich. It does include a small cave called Tory Cave as well. Sometimes, there is a waterfall on the trail. Depending on how much rainfall there is the waterfall can have a lot of water, or absolutely nothing at all. In dry times you may not be able to spot where the waterfall even is. The trail is a mile in length. Stop in at the visitor center before you go on the trail. They have several displays on the geological history of the area. Check the Thacher State Park website to make sure trail is open as well. Unfortunately, it is not open year round. If you like nice hikes with beautiful scenery that the Indian Ladder...
Read moreGreat short trail with nice views and 2 great waterfalls to walk behind. Best time to see the falls is to go after a good rain as to be able to see the falls with water and not a small trickle. Trail is not open year round and is not open 24hrs so plan accordingly. The trail is short and easy to walk and follow but there are stairs you have to descend to get to the trail, so if stairs give you troubles, keep it in mind that as you go down the stairs, youll have to go back up them. There is one spot that is super low that will have tall folks like myself having to stoop way over to pass through. Its a short passage so its not that big a deal and the...
