My favorite things about the Purple Heart Museum: Admission is FREE for EVERYONE! They have an activity for the kids that gets them involved in the exhibits and keeps them busy. Then when they’re done with their project, they talk to the person at the front desk about what they learned and they get a little keepsake. It’s interesting to learn all about the history of the Purple Heart, and it’s an honor to view primary source videotaped accounts of stories of survivorship from some of America’s bravest and best. It’s also amazing to see the Revolutionary War-era cabins outside of the museum. The kids especially enjoyed learning in the outdoor environment. Admission is free to the public and there is a reasonable amount of parking, with a few EV chargers. The museum is closed Mondays. The New Windsor site is also the location for the last cantonment of George Washington near Newburgh at the end of the Revolutionary War. The campground and related memorials surround the museum.
