Our family has been coming to Firefly campground part of the Crystal Lake region of the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest for 35+ years. We have been here every Labor week. For the past 20 years we have experienced the same problem, and that is the campsites flood every little rain storm. I know we are not the only people to experience this. A person would figure the state would use a little bit of the revenue from the camp fees to put a little gravel in the sites to prevent this, but they are just interested in collecting the money and not putting back.

I say that but probably 25 years ago they did put in a shower building here. That's about it.

I just want people to know if there's a chance of rain be prepared for your site to be...

So we stayed in the park this past weekend. Friday night was great. Saturday night however was horrible. We specifically picked a site next to the camp host so as to have peace and quiet. Saturday night was a night of ZERO sleep. There was a couple of women staying in the lots beside us and they were carrying on, yelling at the top of their lungs, running around with flashlights that would periodically shine at our tent, singing loudly until 2AM. I finally could no longer take and yelled at the top of my lungs to "shut the HELL UP". The camp host did absolutely nothing about it. I thought there was to be a quiet time after 10pm. Really...

Beautiful quiet family focused campground, electric only motor lake. Alot of families with children, kayakers and canoers. Small beach with quite a few swimmers. Fishing was better then the overfished larger lake campgrounds. If a shower is needed just drive ten minutes to clear lake campgrounds to enjoy a hot shower. During our stay enjoyed alot of loon activitiy, watched them nab fish and feed them to their loonlings ( is that a word?). Caught a lot of blue gill, very small perch and few 10 inch bass. Encountered non venomous snakes and only one moron who had their phone alarm go off at 3 in the morning for what seemed like half...

Leaves were peak yesterday 10/8/22 Being windy and watching the leaves rain across the road directly from the trees was surreal, but a sure sign the maple, birch, aspen, elm, as well as many othe deciduous trees that adorn the forrest with their color will soon be bare. We took the stone lake route, and the roads were gorgeous.
