The Sands Point Preserve is a beautiful preserve in Port Washington, New York and a must visit destination of Long Island, New York.

The Sands Point Preserve was once the private estate of Howard Gould, an American financier, and then later owned by Daniel Guggenheim, an American mining magnate and prominent member of the Guggenheim family.

Today, the preserve is owned by Nassau County and is open to the public to visit all year round.

Over the years, I have brought and treated my wife and myself to preserve on multiple occasions and we very much enjoyed each of our visits there.

What my wife and I love most about the Sands Point Preserve are the amazing luxurious castles that are located on the estate. We’ve had the great fortune on visiting and taking pictures of Castle Gould and have participated in wonderful guided tours of the Falaise Museum and Hempstead House.

In addition to the spectacular castles, my wife and I loved strolling through the gorgeous gardens, the wooded paths of the estate and enjoyed magnificent views of the Long Island Sound!!!

When visiting Long Island, we urge everyone to stop by and visit the Sands...

Very serene place, but quite crowded. You can do a whole trip here with picnic, park, small hiking trail, and beach. There’s a beautiful preserved building under construction and I was told people can have their wedding there. I didn’t get a chance to see inside though because it was closed off. Parking is $15 per car and they do accept Apple Pay, which is great if you’re not the type to always have cash on you. I didn’t ask if they offered military veteran discounts though. I like that the picnic area provided shade from the trees. I couldn’t imagine having a picnic out there in 90+ degree weather with a high humidity level. Also very pet-friendly. People bring their dogs here and they have a small dog park. The beach is better than Jones beach because it’s not as crowded but it seems more private to residents. At least that’s what the signs dictate. The playground is big. Best thing in the playground is the small zip line for children. I didn’t get a chance to go on the hiking trail, but next time, after a picnic, I would do the hiking trail to the park and...
