Great place to recreate, except during hunting season. This regrowing forest is known as the "909" for its acreage. Many uses include, Camping: 150-foot rule applies, camping allowed anywhere beyond 150 feet of a road, trail, body of water, or other campsite. Local Boy Scout troops camp here regularly. Biking: Fats in the Cats mountain biking club has extensive trails here. See their web site for their "909" maps. They are usually here on Tuesdays. Trails: Extensive and well-marked. See Fats in the Cats trail maps. The mountain bikes make trails easy to see. Not a lot of running water, so fishing is pretty much out, and if you camp, bring your own water. Dog walking: Excellent area for dogs. Cross-Country Skiing, Snow Shoeing: Great! Beautiful woods scenery in the winter. "Mudding": Several dirt roads with large puddles give your jeep a chance to get washed! Hunting: Allowed in season, but, NO TARGET SHOOTING. (Too many civilians in the woods.) Cautions: Watch out for ticks. Dirt roads are driveable but unmaintained. There are areas where enormous (3 foot +) anthills are abundant....

Sadly its not really a multiple use areas as it used to be, rarely these days is the gate open, so family safari, or camping is tough. Place was roughly used in its past so I get the lock down these days, it has made it cleaner and quieter which I enjoy. Camping is tough sometimes, 150ft from a trail is almost impossible as bike trails are all over the place as if it is the only thing to enjoy. Read moreThere is two trailheads with parking areas. This one and another one down the road a mile or so. If you go to this one you have the option of going straight up the fire road to the Timbuktu trail or taking the meandering trail up to the top where Timbuktu starts. I used Alltrails and was confused by the interface so I did not figure out there was other, easier trails here besides Timbuktu, which is quite difficult! It was my second time on a trail and I had to walk my bike down a couple of steep sections and walk my bike up a couple of unexpected sharp inclines. Will definitely...
