After having a great check in experience (the staff was friendly, helpful and efficient), our stay was less than favorable due to the poor conditions and maintenance of the shower and toilet facilities. I can maybe understand, if due to budget cuts, repairs may have to be delayed, but you be the judge of the state the showers are in .... Peeling paint on the floors, and mildew on the walls say to me that nobody gives a crap here, and management is on vacation too! Avoid this place...... Move along, there's nothing here to see ...
Update: I received a reply from someone at the state park office, blaming the conditions of the facilities on the manufacturer of the material used to coat the walls of the showers. Here's my reply to them...
To whom it may concern,
In my previous review, I stated my dismay with the conditions of the shower facilities at the Lake Erie State Park. Your reply sidestepped the real issue. Granted, the materials used to coat the walls have failed. But the lack of day to day cleaning and maintenance, ie, chips of the dislodged material left on the floors, mold and mildew on shower curtains and walls, rotted door frame bases have nothing to do with the manufacturer's failures. These "failures" lie with the lack of management supervision and the work ethics of both parties: staff AND management. And shifting the blame to the product maker is bogus.
This is the third New York State Park I've had the occasion to visit this season on my way across the country from the West Coast to the East Coast, and it will not be the last. By far it is the worst. And your excuse is an embarrassment to the whole system.

Read moreThe grounds are very poor. The first 15 min into the stay i stepped in many holes and every part of the sight had horrible Uneven ground. Then I stepped on a beer bottle cap that was one of 6 I have seen already. The next day I watched the ground keepers, that were going site to site to clean up after those who have left and all they did was shovel out the ashes from the fire pit and then take a large broom and swept it over the picnic table and away they went. Its only into day 2 here and my back is out of joint from the uneven ground and I have a large laceration on my foot from the bottle caps. We also we did not know there was no running water to our site. It is not properly stated, as far as we had seen in the description. When making the reservation we asked and the girl on the line for the park, and she did know. Lawn not mowed at our site. Grass 3 to 4 in high. What a nightmare. It's an accident waiting to happen!!! We have traveled to many campgrounds and never seen anything poorer than this. We will ever stay here again. THANKS CUOMO!!!! SITE 66
Update...after our complaints on the website. Our problems were addressed by management in the park by Jennifer who visited our site in a timely fasion. She was very very nice and resolved all our issues right away. She was very patent and willing to listen to and fix our issues.. THANK YOU...
Read moreFirstly, we had a great time! Hurricane Debbie's remnants were rolling through when we stayed in early August 2024 and the lake was not pleasant. However, the campground was still fun! Disc golf was great. Even our 6 year old dragged through all 18 holes, twice. We had site 61 for the weekend which was thankfully dry. On our scale it's a 2.5, meaning we'll happily stay there again in our 30ft OAL TT. Right across the road are sites 59 and 60 that rate as 4.5 and 4, respectively. Site size and access to the playground are big factors for our family of three. Staff was all-around fantastic across the park. Check-in was easy and informative. Programs are offered nearly constantly although we only made one. There was even a live band on Saturday afternoon! There are comments about muddy sites/ resources earlier in 2024 which the campground addressed. Here's the thing...the mud was 100% gone, and the improvement are 100% real. When you pull in there's (2) fresh-water fill stations. TWO! There's several brand-new, un-mapped sites near the lake. The dump station has (2) lanes with (2) stations per lane. Access in and out of the property is easy as can be, and signage is clear as day. Check out our site-specific photos. We try to get each site! Again, bear in mind the area received several inches of rain just 1-2 days prior to...
