Owned by the Nature Conservancy, the Catherine Wolter Wilderness Area is open to the public from sunrise to sunset. There are several loops of trails to explore in this forested area. You'll wind around several pristine lakes within the ever-changing woods. This system of trails is extraordinary. It quickly became my favorite hiking area in Vilas County.
While hiking is generally easy going, with a few hills, you may experience wet trail crossings near the several culverts, after heavy rains or rapid snowmelt. Waterproof hiking boots and wool socks will protect you from cold feet or blisters. I always pack an extra pair of shoes and socks when I visit this area, after rain events.

There are some wet spots as well as a spot that you will have to cross a stream via fallen logs. It is manageable and not too deep if you happen to step off into the water.
