I drove over 3 hours north to check out this tower. What I found was peace and tranquility. The tower itself is awesome. 100 ft tall and I got to the top in just about 2 minutes. But the view was fantastic! Mountains in the distance, trees as far as the eye can see. The beginning of Autumn color changes as well. I plan to come back in a little over a week to see the full fall foliage. I had been there alone for awhile. At one point, two people showed up. One of them was a guy who grew up in the area and he shared a lot of cool info with me about the place. There was a little section of downed trees where some straight line winds came through, for example. The fact that if I go up there more than once, I might actually see black bears. I would not have known that. So it's an amazing place with excellent views and a general sense of peace. I highly recommend this place. It's free, open to the public, and just an amazing place. They close at sunset, which is perfect. I snapped a picture of the sun right at 6:40 p.m., the time Google said was sunset that day. The fact that it's the only remaining fire tower that the public is allowed to climb is pretty...

The climb wasn't too bad. The stairs were narrow and it's kinda hard to pass people going the opposite direction. Although well maintained, the stairs did sway a little while walking on them.
The upper viewing deck is tiny with space for about 4 people to comfortably stand.

It was extremely windy the day we visited so only went up 20 ft. This is a simple galvanized steel tower with a simple 7x7 tin hut on top. The last inspection was yellow, however you'll notice hundreds of trees that were taken down from a massive wind storm 3 years ago all around the hill and tower. Yet, the tower...
