If you are driving your kids up north to visit Binghamton University, stop off in the small town of Livingston Manor. Livingston Manor has a great coffee/ pastry shop, a restaurant or two, and an out door / hang out fire pit restaurant. As you leave town on old route 17 you will find brewery after brewery wherein one can sample the local 12% beers. Check out the covered bridges on the way to Roscoe. They are a little off the beaten path but worth the effort to find. Eventually you arrive in downtown Roscoe. I'm being facetious. Roscoe is only one block long, but on that block are four story brick buildings, on one side only. Very strange. An Italian restaurant bookends at one end, an old caboose and lumber yard at the other, and another distillery is tucked around behind. Roscoe is like a movie set. All they lack is a pool hall, a woman with too much make-up on the corner holding a cigarette, and a bootlegger in an old milk truck slinking around. If you've made more than one stop at the local breweries, you might consider spending the night. For that there is always the Rockland motel if you want to experience something close to being inside a Hitchcock movie, or you could try one of the several newly renovated B&B's! Don't speed when you get back on route 17 proper. The police are waiting for their catch, like the fly fishermen wading in the...

Another tremendous spot across the border from us in PA in the Catskills. Great bridges. Great breweries. Love all the trout fishing here. Now my wife Mary Jane and I are walking up to Beaverkill Covered Bridge, one of the few remaining commodious (wide and drivable) covered bridges. This is actually part of the Upper Delaware River. So if you're from the Philly area and know the Delaware, can you imagine? Yeah - this is the very water, right here at the source. It's gorgeous. The water is so clear - it's like looking into a portal. There's a lot of beauty here, and the other side of the bridge opens up into a great view. We had to use our Garmin GPS to find it, because - yep - no cell service out here. Definitely off the beaten path. The rain is coming in later tonight, and you can tell - it's starting to get a little cloudy. But the weather right now is perfect: Temperatures are in the high 60s to low 70s - just cool and fresh. Should it be warmer? Maybe. But hey, I'm in the mountains of New York, and it feels amazing. Alright - so just get out there. Again, peoples, pursue your...

My girlfriend paid a fortune for a weekend getaway one cabin up the road. I was awakened at 7 am by blaring salsa and merengue music from a group of about 30 Latino persons grilling, and just having a grand old time--right under the covered bridge, exactly where I planned to flyfish. The entire area on both sides of the bridge was littered with children and adults swimming. I did not get to fish until the end of the day. I feel sorry for the people who own homes on Ragin road--no respect whatsoever. I filled two bags with trash...

As stated before, I am an absolute "bridge junkie". Can't get enough. This one was amazing, as they all tend to be. Had "height arches" on either side to take a hit from too-high vehicles before the bridge does. Solid idea. Beautiful spot with gorgeous farmsteads all around. Trout river. Just breathtaking.

A great place to visit and have a meal. Bridge is really nice to photograph and view. The grounds are very well kept and there is plenty of space to have a picnic or eat a meal. Really scenic and quiet. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
