I had a great time here. Went right after it rained. I did the harder trail and recommend everyone to try it(if possible). There were so many more things to see along the way(like mushrooms), then the easier trail. The mushrooms were everywhere. Some were on the trail itself. Loved that! Was able to get some good shots of them cause they were so close. At the end of the trail, the beach is there and you can see several islands. Even without the sun, its a beautiful location.

Oh, be careful of the parking lot, particularly to the VERY left of the lot, closer to the road. As I was leaving, a car parked by the woods there and got stuck in the sand. Fortunately there were other people around who knew what to do and helped them out.

Anyway, if you go, you'll enjoy it. I'm glad I went. One more thing. There is a restroom by the parking lot. Like a outhouse kind of restroom. The kind of toilet that doesn't flush. Just thought I'd share this tidbit of info. So glad they had this as I was able to use it before I...

This park is only a short drive from Bayfield and well worth visiting! Walking along its paths one feels a serenity that is welcome in itself, but also as a refuge from the bustle of the city. The woods feel intimate, as if one is known and welcomed there. (Think "forest bathing.") When the path winds along Lake Superior, one is invited to wonder about how the lake and woods are related. When we visited, there were 4 cars in the parking area and the other hikers we rarely saw along the path. While being virtually alone was nice, I'd be happy to see more people visit this...

Miigwitch to the Red Cliff Band for making this park available to the public! There are 3 levels of trails to get to the water, and we meant to take the easy one but ended up taking the harder trail because it was the most obvious one with a nice bridge leading into the forest. :) The easier trail that goes directly to the water is an old road and is a few yards back from where you park and where the signs are. We started our hike pretty late in the evening and it got dark quickly as the forest got denser so we turned around. Also bring bug spray, the mosquitoes...

It's a very nice park. There were 3 hiking trails, short, medium and long. We took the longest route by accident but it was a good hike, watch out for roots all over the place though, more than what I'm used to. It was beautiful throughout the hike. You'll be going up and down quite a lot compared to the other two shorter paths there. We were the only ones there at arrival, two other cars were there when we left. There is a porta potty at the entrance and a place for donations for upkeep if you want. The beach was smaller than I imagined but still quite a view.

I applaud the concept but trail maintenance sure isn't a priority. As the first Tribal National Park I was very hopeful that the hike through this beautiful wild spot would be equally educational as it is primal. Having said this I look forward to future effort and future progress ...maybe a little metaphor here. On a more political note, the Tribe has gone out of their way to recognize an environmental patriot and like minded tribal friend. I thought this was a wonderful reminder of the efforts of a true representative of the people of Wisconsin ... Gaylord Nelson.
