Fort Klock Restoration is a unique museum. The fort is a single-story stone structure house, built in an L shape and set in part on bedrock, and in part on a stone foundation. The fort house was built in 1750 by Johannes Klock. Klock was a participant in the American Revolution serving in the Battle of Oriskany. The museum preserves not only the fort house, but many other objects and artifacts primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries. The guide will demonstrate what they were used for and how they worked. Included in the tour you will also see a Dutch barn, blacksmith shop, and one room schoolhouse. Loopholes or gunports are a part of the house so it could be defended in case of an attack; showing the difficulty of life on the colonial frontier . The spinning wheel and loom are also unique to learn about. For a small museum it really offers a lot. If you plan on going call ahead so you can get a tour. Guide was friendly and...

The pictures online and description (as well as the name) made this place sound like a military fort that might be interesting to see. Instead, it turned out to be an old homestead that had been restored. While there were definitely some interesting facts during the tour we were give, it wasn't quite what we had expected.
I would recommend this as a stop for anyone with plenty of time and an interest in history, but it's less friendly for small children than expected, especially if they already have some difficulties with attention.
The guide was very friendly, and had a lot of good stories about the place to tell, and I'd love to give it more stars, but it's online appearance and the actual experience were so different, that I feel this is...
Read moreAnother original home of early German settlers in the region that was later fortified as a "fort" and safe house. Built in 1750 the stone house has musket loopholes in the wall that allowed the defender to sight and shoot at enemy troops. The battle of Klocks field during the Revolution was fought just to the west of the house.
The home is beautiful with the interior full of amazing timepiece period artifacts. There is natural spring in the basement which fed the house clean water at all times. Be sure to take the tour as you see all kinds of neat things like the dog treadmill upstairs. There is also a one room schoolhouse and blacksmith...
