This is a wonderful park for visitors. But it is not a good neighbor to the people that own property and summer camps around it. It's like being in the most beautiful place except there is a quarry next door. Every morning early they run heavy equipment for hours, full size articulated front end loader, with extra loud back up sounds ruining the quietness and serenity that makes this such a special place. Repeated requests for a solution have been ignored for years. You can hear it at the Wigwam, the Sportsman Association, Amy's Eddie's Cove, Sandy Pond Marina, the Trailer Park, most of South Pond and half way up the peninsula. Totally not cool. Also the boundaries are poorly marked and that leads to their own set of issues. If you love this place, Sandy Pond, then consider asking the park to address these issues. Can't we all get along? I would hope so. Please Help. And Saturday morning after 4th of July when thousands of people are sleeping in the Park starts it's mining equipment with endless backup sounds, unbelievable. I called, no one ever answers or gets back to me. Totally ignored. I've asked hundreds of residents here. No one likes the sounds in the morning, or ever. New solution needs to be found, the...
Read moreWebsite says dog friendly in “day use” areas but there wasn’t any spot actually dog friendly. A lifeguard came up to us and told us our dog couldn’t be there and then said there isn’t a single beach in NY that allows dogs. Maybe update your site then? Drove 3 hours to come here. They ended up letting us stay but we had to sit in the way back with our dog and our dog couldn’t enjoy the water at all.
Too many restrictions in place to be fun. The buoy is at waist level so you can’t even “swim”. Plus there’s a layer of rocks before you actually even get into the lake that hurt to walk on. Pretty disappointed in this lake and wouldn’t make the trip again! This would be a perfect spot for toddlers or young children though.
Also a $7 parking fee. When we arrived, they were fixing the machine and told us not to worry about it. When we were leaving we had a park ranger pull up next to us and ask for our parking pass. Maybe if it was in working order would have had one lol. I’m sure there’s other nicer spots that don’t hound you and restrict you...
Read moreOur family (just 3 of us) came during COVID social distancing. Beach was packed with signs to set blankets/towels up at least 10 feet apart. We found a place just on the other side of the boyies, about 15 feet between us and the next family on either side. About 20 minutes in both families on either side of us left. We were sitting quietly on the shore just tossing rocks back into the waves, when the group about 50 feet down from us behind the "Private Property" signs had their unrestrained golden retriever repeatedly come over to greet us. The dog didnt want to return to them, and the lady from the group got angry and marched over telling us "quite rudely" that we were on her property. She stated that she owned the shore all the way down to the boyies (even though the Private property signs were 50 feet behind her). She demanded we stop tossing the rocks into the water so that her dog wouldn't come over to us. This probably would have been an enjoyable experience otherwise. Would not reccommend this...
